You Want Glow? Oh I’ll Give You Glow…

I feel like I will always strive for J.Lo, hyper-glowy skin forever and always. When I was younger whenever a patch of oiliness decided to creep out I’d blot it away and cake on the powder (hello MAC Blot Powdernow that is some heavy duty stuff), but now I highly encourage my natural grease to make an appearance. I put it down to a change in my skin’s output, which is slightly more dry these days than it used to be and I’m just generally getting older, so when it comes to hydration and sheen – I’m all for it. Skincare, primers, bases and highlighters – the lot. They’re all non-negotiables in my routine. Here are some of my favourites…

When it comes to skincare I feel like masks aside (the Peter Thomas Pumpkin Enzyme Mask really does amp up my skin’s natural radiance), oils are really where I get my glow from. I have a handful of faves that I pick up on different occasions. The priciest of the bunch – KYPRIS’ Beauty Elixir I – is my go-to for when I’m feeling über dry because I find it to be the richest and most moisturising formula. I love the Sunday Riley Luna Oil whenever I feel like my skin is having some textural issues, along with my dryness too. Then finally I grab the MV Organic Skincare Rose Plus Booster (which might just be the nicest smelling oil ever), on mornings and evenings when I’m feeling slightly oily because I find this to have a deliciously light texture.

My skincare edit ticked of the list, let’s talk primers which is probably going to be the smallest paragraph today because there’s only really one that I’m using right now because it’s just so darn good – BECCA’s Backlight Primer Filter. Gorgeous name, stunning formula, decent longevity. It does everything I want a primer to do as it hydrates the skin, leaves behind a soft glow and just makes anything you put on top of it look a little juicer. It’s beautiful.

For base there are three for me that stand out in their levels of glow, plus – there’s one for every coverage gradient. If you fancy something light and everyday, ‘no-makeup, makeup’-esque then I’m all about the CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation which is such a top pick of mine that I own two shades – B10 and B20 – so I can wear it all year round. Charlotte Tilbury’s Light Wonder Foundation (I use Fair 02) is somewhere in the middle in that it gives a medium coverage but leaves the skin looking seriously glossy. Oily skins beware, dry skins go ahead. Now I’m in the early stages of testing the newly reformulated YSL Touche Eclat Foundation (I use B10) but so far, so good. It somehow manages to have an insanely high coverage and yet still look glowy and soft on the skin. I’ll pop up an extended review once I’ve given it more of a test.

You know I’m all about the BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Moonstone when it comes to highlighters. I’ve tried others, but nothing else compares with the high-sheen, yet subtle finish this gives. Plus I find that the creamy pale, almost yellow-y tone of it really works well with my skintone. I’ve also been trying out the new Urban Decay Afterglow Highlighter in Sin which is buttery powder formula that’s a nice mix of champagne and pink tones. It gets up a thumbs up from me. Right now though I’m also loving the MAC Strobe Cream which is a cream with an iridescent pink/silver finish. It’s not the colour that I usually go for with my highlights and it’s definitely less natural looking than the BECCA, but I like the fact it’s in cream form so I either mix it in with my foundations or use it alone as a cream highlight. Now this stuff brings the glow to a whole new level. In fact I’d quite like to dip my whole body in it. J.Lo glow, here we come!
