You remember last winter when I got all caught up with the MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Eclair? I hunted high and low for it and then proceeded to wear it basically everyday until the summer rolled around. Well I finally found my ‘Eclair‘ for this season and it’s all kinds of fabulousness – Tom Ford’s Cream Colour for Eyes in Spice.
I’ll begin with the eye-watering fact that this rings up at £28, which compared to other products in the line isn’t actually outrageous (believe it or not!) and is just £3 more than the CHANEL Ilussion D’ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadows. It’s pricey. It’s Tom Ford. We get it.
RRP and super luxe packaging aside it’s the formula and colour that do it for me. The texture feels wetter than other shadows which means you get a layering option. Smudge it on with your fingers and work it out to a sheer wash that dishes out a thin veil of shimmer with a tint of shadow across the lid. Or pack it on with a flat brush, permit blending on the outer edges only and get an opaque wash of colour; that colour being a warm brown with an undertone of red and shot of golden chic (not chunky) sparkle. The longevity is good – even more so with a bit of base underneath – and personally I’ve found that I like to wear it best on it’s own, letting it do that whole multi-tonal thing on its lonesome.
Personally I dub it worth the investment, however, there are some dupes out there. They’re not exact but if budget doesn’t stretch or stock becomes an issue then it’s worth giving the Estée Lauder Pure Colour Stay On Shadow Paint in Chained (a bit more brown-y, less shimmer) or the Max Factor Excess Shimmer in Bronze (more red-y, more shimmer) a go. But really, it’s Spice that’s got me reaching for a swipe of shadow every day. Let’s see if this lasts till summer…
