Today is the day that #BeautyChatLIVE officially hits the road! Sidenote: thank you so much for all your support on this project. It means the world to Lily and I and I can hand on my heart say that we did not expect this big of a reaction to it all. If you missed out on tickets or we didn’t make it to your part of the country this time round then I apologise, but hopefully we’ll get to do this again, so if you’d like us to head to your area then let us know and we’ll try our best if there’s a next time. This week we’re heading to Manchester, Dublin and Glasgow and there’s a hella load of travelling involved. Train, air, car – the lot and so I thought I’d spill the contents of my carry-on which I think I finally have down to a tee…
The Tote – This bag was purchased with travelling in mind. I wanted something that was big and leather-made, but not heavy like my others and had lots of pouches and pockets inside, but did have a few zipped compartments for security. This tote from Whistles is exactly that. Screw the travelling part, I’ve been using this everyday since I got it.
The Reading Material – I always like to have a bit of reading material with me and usually make a last minute stop at WHSmith before boarding. Amy Poehler’s ‘Yes Please‘ sorted me out on my last trip, but this time round I’m giving Caitlin Moran’s ‘How to Build a Girl’ a whirl. It’s always good to have the laptop with you too incase you fancy a bit of inflight entertainment and mine has three seasons of Parks and Recreation downloaded on it currently so I’m good to go.
The Noise-Cancelling Headphones – Now these weren’t a cheap purchase by any means (though I did manage to get an ex-display pair, which knocked some significant dollar off), but my BOSE Quiet Comfort 15 Noise-Canceling Headphones (they’ve since come out with bigger and better ones), may just be one of my favourite purchases of all time. Oh that baby sitting in the row next to us cried the whole 7 hour journey? Wouldn’t know. Very helpful, except when the person sitting next to the window is trying to get out because they need the loo.
The Documents – I’m such a fumbler when it comes boarding passes and things. I’m always the one who gets to the front of the queue and is standing there, apologising to everyone around me with 20 pieces of paper in my hand. But you gotta have them. Along with keys, phone, my purse and all other boring grown-up things that come with this category.
The Medicine Cabinet Bag – Not being the best flyer in the world there’s always a few travel sickness pills in there along with an anti-bac hand gel (this L’Occitane one is currently my favourite), Neurofen, a sachet of Emergen-C incase I start to feel the sniffles come on, a mini rollerball of the This Works Deep Sleep Stress Less and the Clinique Repairwear Intensive Lipbalm which I love for flights because the application is finger-free.
It might sound hefty but I promise you that it’s not actually too heavy and most definitely does not almost cause my arm to fall off like it did when I used to pack a spare pair of clothes, my whole makeup bag and five books – ‘just incase‘ – in my bag. Overpacker? Me. Never.
