If you’re into nail art, or just nail polish general then the chance is that you’re familiar with the concept of WAH Nails. A London based brand, started by Sharmadean Reid which specialises in some of the most intricate, yet attitude-filled lacquer designs out there. I’ve been meaning to visit their salon for months, but after spotting their new nail varnish and care line on a recent trip to Boots it seems that I no longer have to leave the house to get my WAH fix. There’s everything from tools to trend kits and polishes to pens and of course I stocked up all in the name of research…
I’ll get the crappy negative Nancy bit out of the way first because there was one thing that I was a little disappointed with – the Nail Polish in The Blue Room. In the bottle it looks like an electric blue, but on the nails it falls a bit flat and the thin consistency of the product meant that even two layers didn’t reach full opaqueness. The drippy texture means it’s difficult to get the right amount on the brush too; either it was streaking all over the place or it looked like I’d emptied half the bottle on my nail. Let’s just say it took work.
I gave the formula a second chance because I’d also purchased the shade Expensive Taste (as pictured above) and the results were much better. Sure, the thin texture was still there – but actually the layers dried really quickly meaning that the whole mani process was pretty speedy. You know, I can see what they’ve done there. So it looks like it’s a bit of trial and error when it comes to the colours, but where the range really shone was with the Classy Glassy Glossy Topcoat. This stuff is amazeballs. It was fast drying within minutes, left my nails looking glossy and four days later there’s not too much going on in the chip department. Nothing I’ve tried has ever come close to Seche Vite in terms of ticking all the boxes of a dream top coat, but this comes the closest (the only downside is that at 6.5mls a bottle, it’s not exactly fab value).
I also picked up a tool while I was perusing – The Clean-Up Brush – and like the top coat it too gets a thumbs up. It makes me feel all profresh; dipping it into remover, cleaning up my cuticles and the finish I get is the tidiest I’ve ever been able to make it look. No more polish creeping underneath my tips or halfway down my finger.
I feel like I’ve halfway got my WAH fix, but I’ll definitely be booking into their salon soon because I’m in the mood for some seriously loud nails and even though I might have mastered cuticle clean-up, I’ve still got a long way to go…
