Whenever I spot a NARS counter I always head over and have a little twiddle with their Velvet Matte Lip Pencils (a.k.a my favourite bold lip colour formula EVER). Usually I end up doing the MAC-style thing of picking up colours I already I own – ‘ahhh yes Dragon Girl….Red Square – love that one‘ – but on the odd occasion I find something new and within 10 seconds I’m at the till enquiring into the stock situation. Case in point: a couple of week’s ago when I found Train Bleu at my local store. It’s not a colour that I’d ever spotted before, but it’s right up my street. Bold, deep and kinda vampy…
As always the texture is matte. There’s a hint of creaminess to it which means that it’s got enough slip to spread over the lips evenly, but it’s a shine-free finish overall. Its long-lasting, non-budging and with a bit of lip balm applied immediately after removal in the evening, it doesn’t leave my lips feeling too prune-like. The colour though is an interesting one and it might just be the darkest I’ve ever gone with my pout. It’s a deep, rich aubergine that’s got enough purple in it to stop it from looking too Halloween-like and makes me comfortable enough to wear this during the day. Personally I like it worn minimally with a clean base, heavily mascaraed lashes and something neutral and matte on the eye. It’s autumn, it’s the time to crack out vampy lips. It’s the kind of colour that a shop assistant will compliment you on and that’s always a good thing that puts a little spring in your step as you buy your Three Bean Mexican Wrap at lunchtime.
See? It’s always worth having another look at the Velvet Matte Lip Pencils. I wonder what I’ll find next time…
P.S) Apologies for the lack of swatch here *slaps wrist*. I’m wearing it in Sunday’s video if you’d like to see it properly in action!
