We all know Urban Decay kick ass in the eye makeup category. Primers, palettes, shadows, liners? Yep they’ve got them down. But lips? Well if I’m honest their lipstick offering never caught my eye. Their original line launched in 2008, housed in dagger embossed packaging, in a range of finishes and with some pretty out there shades. Well it’s had a makeover, out with the old, in with the new Revolution* formulations and from the comparisons between the two, U.D lipstick has grown up. No more shimmer finishes, just 22 creamy über pigmented colours, no dagger just a sleek mirrored case and a more wearable shade selection. After eyeballing them all there is not one I wouldn’t wear.
A lot of lipsticks pass over my pout that never get a look in on VDM, but this are just different. I can’t quite put my finger on it. The texture is thick, like real thick, you really feel like you’re adding another layer to your lips and the finish means that this stuff stays put for a good few hours, yet it doesn’t feel heavy. And the colour, well – how opaque can you get? They sort of remind me of if the Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipsticks were available in solid form – this would be them. I’m liking the colours too; my three favourites are Naked, a sophisticated nude that’s like MAC Patisserie but without the shimmer, Bang, an orangey red which was the shade at the launch that elicited the most excitable coos from the crowds and Streak – my favourite. Hello peachy pink (see it in action here)! The closest I’ve found to it in my stash is MAC’s Cut A Caper, though it’s much pinkier and bolder; it’s created a whole new category of its own – the bold peachy pink. And Urban Decay have rejigged their lip liner line to accomadate a corresponding colour for each shade. Kudos UD, an extremely well thought out lip drop and at £14 each when they launch on 5th August, they are not too pricey either. And Streak? Welcome to the daily makeup rotation.
