Two New Mascaras: The Lash Lift Discoveries

IMG_1420Mascara

I think it’s fair to say that I’m fully on board with this whole lash lift thing (see my post on it here). I’m in my sixth week now and the results have lasted pretty well, with me only having to reach for my eyelash curlers in the past week or so (they were actually lost down the back of my drawers for the first few weeks of the month and I only had to fish them this weekend). I will definitely be booking myself for a re-lift when I have a spare hour. In the meantime though my newly ‘still hold a curl whatever mascara you use’ lashes have meant that I’ve been able to dabble in the world of non-waterproof mascara formulas and expand my horizons. Here are two that I love…

Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara – £20 – from Harrods (on my right eye). I have seen so many other people rave about this mascara and rightly so. I feel like it’s a real crowd-pleaser. The brush is bushy and hearty, though not clumsily so and holds a nice amount of product so you don’t end up with a spider-leg inducing amount on your lashes after one swipe. It means that you can dish out quite a light layer if you fancy something more natural looking, but it builds up to some serious volume if you’re in the mood for something a tad more dramatic. It’s black, glossy and had a nice balance of length-giving, curl-lifting and volume-boosing properties. The only drawback is that it can smudge a little. I find that I have to give my brow bone a little swipe every couple of hours just to get rid of some grey smudges. #CurlyLashProblems, eh? I ain’t complaining.

Estée Lauder Sumptuous Knockout Mascara – £24 – from FeelUnique (on my left eye). This reminds me of the Estée Lauder Little Black Primer, but with a little more oomph. It’s a good everyday or weekend-approrpiate mascara because it’s separating and lengthening, but is a more parred back in the volume department. I don’t find this to smudge as much as the Marc Jacobs Mascara either, so I brave this on the lower lashes too and don’t start to look like a panda until the very, very end of the day. It’s got an interesting brush too. I think it’s rubberised a few little spikes on the end that work really well if there’s one pesky lash that you’re struggling to coat or a couple of lashes that are clubbing together, it works as a little comb that can help to separate things out.

Anything else you’d recommend that I need to get on my lashes pronto?
