I’ve got so many grey-toned, lilacy beige nail polishes I could quite easily open up a nail salon called ’50 Shades of Leige’. Ba-Doom CRASH! Although I’ve managed to claw my stash to a more socially acceptable amount recently (but more of that on the weekend), there’s still a big Nails Inc Porchester Square-esh contingent because dirty grey lacquer will always have a special place in my heart. But currently there’s a new colour family in town that’s taking over…
Hues of blue and of glows of green seem to be popping up in my basket each time I go shopping and with the summer months in full swing, I’m appreciating the splash of colour for once. Firstly, I welcomed the baby blue, Barry M’s Speedy Quick Dry Nail Paint in Eat My Dust. Then there was the true periwinkle Topshop Nails in Blue Rinse and right now I’m kinda obsessed with their shade, Boy Next Door and I can’t really stop looking at it. I use every excuse I can to splay my fingers out in front of me and admire the colour. Sad, but true.
Boy Next Door is a jazzy-take on mint (I can never see or hear the word ‘jazzy‘ without thinking of The Inbetweeners). It’s almost like a luminous version of a sky-blue tinged mint. It reminds me of one of the best ice cream favours ever to grace this earth – mint choc chip (third only to cherry and Ben & Jerry’s Phish Food). I’ve compared it side-by-side the classic measure of mint – Essie’s Mint Candy Apple – and it’s just much more blue. Controversial statement here, but I think I actually prefer Topshop’s version *insert shocked face emoji*.
I hadn’t had much experience with Topshop Nails until recently and I have to say I find them to perform really well compared to the rest of my Essie-centric stash. The wear time for me is about three-ish days before things start looking like they need a repaint (though bear in mind that I’m a person who lives life on the edge by going glove-less when doing the washing up) and they layer up well. If they had a curved, cuticle-hugging end, then we’d be on to something really really special.
