Recently I’ve been doing this bad thing in the evenings where I get myself ready for bed ridiculously early, hop under the covers around 8.30ish with the full intention of watching some episodes of 30 Rock with Mark, before getting too cosy and nodding off at the bedtime of a 5 year old. Mark then ends up having to take off the extra blankets and turn off the lights – poor guy. I usually wake up about 1am feeling very hot as I’ve gone to sleep with my dressing gown on and very confused as I don’t remember falling asleep. It’s all very bizarre. So this week I’ve got into a little routine pre-snooze that I tend to partake in at the more (if only marginally) sociably acceptable time of 10pm – that hour and a half makes all the difference, I tell you! It’s a three step mini pamper that nourishes and clicks your brain into sleep mode. Let me explain…
The first thing I like to do is set the mood with a spritz of one of the best smelling sprays out there – the This Works Sleep Plus+ Pillow Spray (it’s an amped up formula of the original, but personally I can’t tell a difference). There’s the obvious inclusion of lavender in there, along with other sleep-inducing ingredients and I know it could all be a placebo effect, but I really do feel like I get a better night’s sleep when I’ve remembered to use this. It can make your pillow a little damp, so I like to use it first, then by the time I’m ready to hit the hay it’s dried off and all that’s left is the slumber-making scent.
The next thing to do is moisturise. Now I’m really good at remembering to moisturise my face – I do it twice a day – I’m not so good with giving some TLC at my limbs and I’m pretty horrible at remembering to use lip balm, despite loving the stuff. So this is where things get a bit greasy. Not bad greasy, but good greasy. Firstly I use a lip balm. Right now I’m into the CHANEL Hydra Beauty Nourishing Lip Care, which is slightly ridiculous price-wise, but it leaves my lips feeling silky and soft. It’s kinda cool in that your finger literally melts into the stuff (if too sleepy you could potentially stick your finger to the bottom and lose about a tenners worth of product), and it’s almost like a milky finish. Sounds weird, but it feels nice. Promise.
The final thing I do is brush on a shedload of cuticle oil. Emphasis on the ‘shedload’ here. Of course you want to make sure you’ve done all PM duties like setting your alarm and anything to do with your phone because it puts your fingertips out of action for awhile while it absorbs. The best one I’ve found is Ciate’s Beautiful Cuticles. It smells nice and fruity and keeps my cuticles in check. No more weird flakey cuticles to be seen – whoop.
