Ignoring the fact that this winter my lips have been the driest they’ve ever been in my entire existence, my skin has actually faired pretty well. No weird scaly patches or areas that require special attention, overall it’s been pretty standard and balanced hitting the ‘there’s a bit of something there, but I wouldn’t call it oil’ equilibrium pretty well. This hasn’t always been the case mind you and previous chilly seasons have seen my face erupt into a sensitive soul that would turn beetroot red at the appearance of a damp flannel (that’s when my deep love affair for Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation began). I’m pinning this year’s skin success on a better diet, drinking more water, actually exercising and all that good stuff, but I do reckon the use of more oils and richer textures in my routine has played a role. Fancy an edit curated for juicy skin that’s usually reserved for the summer? Here you go…
The Oil-Based Cleanser – Superfacialist by Una Brennan Vitamin C Brighten Skin Renew Cleansing Oil. Of course I love my OSKIA Cleanser offering, but when hydration levels are low I dip into this because it’s the most moisturiser-like cleanser I’ve ever used. My skin feels clean, but in a dewy way – not a squeaky clean way.
The Morning Appropriate Oil – Sarah Chapman Skinesis Morning Facial. Finding oils that sit well under makeup was forever the impossible task before this came along. In the same serum/oil/treatment format as their evening formula, I throw this on as the final step of my skincare routine and after it’s sunk it you can feel it’s there, but it doesn’t look like it’s there – you know?
The Oil That I Use for Everything – Liz Earle Superskin Concentrate. Face, cuticles, elbows, feet – the lot. There’s something so spa-y about this oil and though it could be down to the scent – ahhhh – the scent! – I reckon it’s the texture, that feels really rich and gives a nice slip when you massage it in but absorbs and leaves the applied area looking seriously glowy.
The Rich, Not Greasy Moisturiser – Avene Rich Skin Recovery Cream. You know everyone has that moisturiser that they reach for when their skin goes a little cray cray? The formula that they know won’t screw it up and will be the one to come in, save the day and calm everything down? Well this is my SOS moisturiser.
The Oil That My Skin Drinks Up – MV Skincare Rose Plus Skin Booster. There isn’t enough space in this post to write all the words for how much I frickin’ love this stuff. One drop gives a hit of hydration suitable for the AM, two is my usual evening dose and three is for when my skin is as dry as the Sahara. My top skincare find of the 2014? There’s no contest.
