I love a good ol’ sleepover. There’s nothing better than catching up with your mates over a belly-busting bowl of popcorn with songs from your childhood blasting out and managing to squeeze in mini mani and facial at the same time. That’s exactly how it played out a few weekends back, when I trekked to my hometown for a night-in with two of my oldest pals (I may have accosted them into letting me riffle through both their makeup bags too, posts in progress). It was the perfect sleepover serving if I say so myself. So this weekend I’m whipping it into a takeaway ‘do-it-yourself if you fancy’ menu. The music, the food, the beauty…
THE MUSIC: A sing-a-long playlist including: Blu Cantrell – Breathe, Usher – Burn, Destiny’s Child – Say My Name, Pras – Ghetto Superstar, Jennifer Paige – Crush, Fat Joe – What’s Love, TLC – No Scrubs, Savage Garden – Truly, Madly, Deeply and way more. In fact I’ve popped our favourites into a little playlist should you require your own sleepover soundtrack.
THE FOOD: We may have gone a little wild on the food front. M&S Caramel & Pretzel Chocolate Clusters were the ‘oh balls we’ve eaten the whole pack in five minutes‘ surprise. Mini Jaffa Cakes, M&S Percy Pigs and Chocolate Covered Toffee Popcorn were also consumed in large quantities. Don’t worry though – we finished up the leftovers for breakfast. Standard sleepover behaviour.
THE FACIAL: I was in charge of the set list for this step and plumped for a trio of skin cleaners, buffers and nourishers. We all began with makeup removal, then we moved onto step one: cleanse. For this I dug out the Malin + Goetz Detox Face Mask, if only for comic value. It’s a self-foaming mask that signifies it’s ready to be rinsed off by expanding into a Santa-like beard. Faux foam beards removed we went for a polishing offering; Aromatherapy Associate’s Essential Enzyme Peel. Once it had done its fruit acid thang we moved onto one with more hydrating properties and slathered on a thick layer of Avene’s Soothing Moisture Mask that we slept in till morn. Polished, glowing skin was ours come the am; thumbs up all round.
THE MANI: Knowing that my toes were in need of a repaint I lugged my Red Carpet Manicure Kit all the way down from London and got to work with the shade I Own the Runway. I’ll spare you a picture of that. Lauren studied the ways of the gel polish world then decided to go for the same black cherry shade on her tips. Mel is the Queen of nails, with the ability to varnish on some of the neatest self-made paint jobs I’ve seen. She neatly laid on with Laura Mercier Nail Lacquer in Bare Haze and remarked that it’s been her go-to shade of the season.
Loud singing with Mariah Carey-esque gestures/triple threat facial/eating till you can no longer move: optional. Girlie gossip: mandatory.
