The Weekend Post #62: A New Rotation

Come on you don’t need me to tell you about my highly organisational tendencies again, do you? The weekend for me is wholeheartedly reserved to eating, sleeping and tidying my beauty tools and arsenal (as vastly documented in this feature). Amongst the cleaning and clearing that goes on, every few weeks I like to sit and work through my stash. Throwing items back into the Muji drawer mix that have been missing in action or are new to the clan. Out with the usual suspects, and in with something a little different. Here’s what caught my eye today and has subsequently earned their place in my daily grind rotation…

I’ve been a bit of a floozy with foundations recently: flirting with tinted moisturisers, swearing to BB creams, then coming back round to something a little heavier coverage again. I can’t help it, ever since my beloved Jemma Kidd Light As Air was discontinued I’ve been mixed up. I’ve currently plumped back to Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Even Finish Foundation in Sand*, a formula I drew comparisons with Jemma Kidd’s L.A.A to when I first sampled it and still do. It’s not a spot-on, ‘I’m going to shout about it from the blogging hilltops‘ dupe, but it’s mid-ish coverage, equal measures of matte and dewy in all the right places and stays put. It’ll do for now. Eye bag emergencies will be covered by my third tub of Bobbi Brown’s Creamy Concealer in Sand and the more bright eye awakening Clinique Airbrush Concealer*. And to pep everything up, I’ll be getting my mixing kick from adding a pump of Clarins Instant Light Complexion Perfector in Rose Shimmer* to two parts foundation, for some extra dew.

Contoured cheeks will come courtesy of Benefit’s Hoola; a product that has been collecting dust too long in the depths of my drawers. Slightly warmer than my usual cheekbones chiseller – Kevyn Aucoin’s The Sculpting Powder – I’ll be dusting this all over my apples for a dusky glow. One constant in my collection right now is Hourglass’ Arch Sculpting Brown Pencil in Soft Brunette, nothing even comes close to its shading and staying-put properties. It’s a keeper. For eyes, I’m going back to my one-shade, smudged-out roots; MAC Cork all over the lids paired with a surprising appearance from Lancôme Hypnôse Waterproof Mascara (my L’Oreal Telesopic’s dried out and I need to get off my todd and buy out another one). Lip-wise I’m trying to contain my excitement at being in ownership of one of the new shades of Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfectors* – to be seen on counters in May in the UK – I just had to whip one into my rotation. Candy Shimmer 05, is my pick of the bunch. A petal pink, my-lips-but-better-esque shade.

So say hello to some old favourites and welcome to a handful of newbies. Special mentions to the dark circle clouting Clinique Airbrush Concealer and a hotly anticipated new shade of Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector, soon to be on a counter near you which is a bit of a dream for a fangirl like myself to be trialling. Into the drawer they reside, in grabable, get-up and go distance for the week ahead. You know what they say – tidy makeup drawers equal tidy mind.
