The Weekend Post #56: And So To Bed…

Sleeping is easily up in there in my top five activities. Nothing beats cosying up under the covers after a long day, thermals on, Ryan Gosling film rolling – a little snapshot of my nightly routine there for you. I love a little ritual and my bedtime beauty formula is no exception; there are sprays, soaks and smoothers that all make an appearance before I snuggle up. Lately I’ve become a little consumed with the This Works Deep range, after giving a few items a go which resulted in some successful snooze-heavy sleeps I took the plunge and purchased the This Works Night Owl set which made an appearance in my most recent Haul Video. I promised a follow-up so this weekend I thought I’d share my thoughts on the newest additions to my Deep Sleep line-up…

The cult product from the range is the Deep Sleep Pillow Spray which also made its way into my Mum’s stack of presents on Christmas Day. It’s a herbaly scented spritz – think Liz Earle products mixed with a little Aromatherapy Associates and you’re on the right track – that when sprayed onto your pillow each night helps you drop off that little bit quicker. Quick tip – spray from a distance to avoid a soggy pillow. Next up is the Deep Sleep Bath Soak. Now I’ve spoken up of my love for bath salts and soaks before so I knew this one was going to be a winner. My only grumble is that you don’t get a lot in a pot, 10 baths at best and I like this to be a nightly routine so I’m rationing it out for ‘special occasions’ – aka ‘Ryan Gosling’ nights. Fellow candle lovers rejoice for there’s a new burning beauty to add to your wishlist, the Deep Sleep Heavenly Candle, an earthy lavender based scent that burns happily on my bedside.

Of course the question of whether they do actually aid deep sleep is the clincher and it’s a bit of a difficult one to judge. My thoughts are that’s it’s a bit of a placebo effect mixed with some clever aromatherapy. I tend to have a better nights sleep when I indulge in my ritual but whether that’s all in my head or down to the products it’s a toughie to detangle. One thing I can vouch for is I definitely feel more relaxed after using all the Deep Sleep products I own in conjunction. At least once a week I like to bathe by candlelight, turn off technology and have a mini bathing break. It won’t surprise me if one day I’m found asleep in there.

Out of all the oils, lotions, soaks, balms, candles and sprays that I’ve tried (the line is pretty extensive), my favourite product of them all has to be the Deep Sleep Stress Less rollerball, which I’m already on my on my second offering of. It’s one those ‘does-it-all-and-more’ products that I whip into my bag on travels. You can shake this lavender and peppermint concoction into the bath, apply on pressure points to soothe a sore head or roller onto a pillow for a more souped-up sleeping measure. Gawd, even just writing this post is making my eyes I little heavy…
