There’s just something about the weekend that screams skincare to me, hence the usually face-based focus of these posts. So when I posted about my new cleansing drawer on Instagram a handful of you seemed intrigued so I thought I’d detail it a little further. To be precise it’s my makeup removal/cleansing stash. My favourite part of my skincare routine – getting the gunk off, feeling fresh and pepping up my skin to give it that ‘ahhhh’ feeling – you know what I mean? The usual suspects appear of course, so I won’t ramble on about those but there are two new additions – one product and one technique that have been rocking my world…
First up – an oil based cleanser. Now if anyone remembers my distaste with the Shu Uemura ones, you’ll know that this is slightly dodgy territory for me, but NUDE’s new offering has made me do a swift 180. Their Perfect Cleansing Oil for Face & Eyes* is formulated without mineral oil, parabens, silicones and a load of other nasties. The main pull for me is the exclusion of mineral oil, a cheap filler ingredient that so many other cleansing oils are based on (including the Shu Uemura ones), so thumbs up all round for that. The other thing – it works. And it works well. I’m a waterproof mascara wearer and nothing dissolves it off like this. In fact I haven’t even been using it on the rest of my face, just two pumps on two cotton pads for each eye. Simples. At £28 for 100ml it’s pricey, but using it just on the eyes will sure eke it out for a while.
The other new favourite is a technique. Now do be warned this is probably the most mundane subject I’ve ever rambled about but hear me out on this one. Flannels. Yep, you read that right. I’m a stickler for a good ol’ manual exfoliation – first it was muslin cloths then I moved into the Clarisonic. Both I still use from time to time (I now crack out the Clarisonic every two or three days in the evenings), but flannels are now my main form of scrubbing. In the evenings I massage in a blob of the Emma Hardie Natural Lift and Sculpt Moringa Cleansing Balm* (which is easily my number one skincare discovery this year), then wet a flannel and go wild. After a good massage I feel like a new woman – cheesy but true. Cheap and effective – I’ve been stocking up with the Primark 3 for £1 bundles. Luverly.
Ah now it’s time to put words into action. Goodbye gunk, hello barefaced bedtime chic..
