The Weekend Face: Revisited

Weekend Face

There are many weekends that pass completely sans makeup for me. If I haven’t left the flat or am having a chilled out wander with friends or some family time then often I don’t fancy bothering with makeup that morning. I know it’s probably a bit of a myth, but I like there to be a few days a week where I can let my complexion ‘breathe‘. Other times I’m in the mood to experiment and slap on more makeup than I would for an evening out. This is often caused by a marathon YouTube watching session which concludes by me just wanting to pile on every single item I own. Sometimes I sit right in the middle; a not so great skin day means I want a bit of coverage on my face with a touch of definition around the eyes because who doesn’t love a coat (or five) of mascara? This little routine that I’m going to delve into today doesn’t take long and has become my weekend ‘I’m going out and just fancy a little bit of makeup’ face. If you want to see my weekday makeup menu then that will be up here later on this morning.

I’ve recently rekindled my romance with the Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturiser in Nude. How did I ever forget about this stuff? Despite being known as a cult classic tinted moisturiser, I feel like this sits more as a light coverage foundation and man does it dish out the sheen. I hate to throw around the buzzwords ‘dewy’, ‘fresh’ and ‘glowy’ again for the millionth and one time, but this base is basically the epitome of all three adjectives. Of course if you’ve been up the night before tearing up at the Parks & Recreation Season 7 Finale (and watching the April and Andy fast forward clip on repeat) then you might want a bit of concealer around the eyes and for that I love the NARS Creamy Concealer in Vanilla. It’s creamy as the name would suggest, but packs a punch of coverage and blends in well with your fingers which means, so far, no brush needed. Score.

I tend to leave it there for complexion as the base dials up the natural highlight and my cheeks are naturally ruddy anyway and move onto eyes/brows/that general area. For brows on this particular day I used the Anastasia Brow Wiz in Soft Brown, which fills in my brows in a detailed, but subtle way. Then on my eyes I went for an eyeshadow colour that I picked up when I was on holiday last year; it’s the KORRES Eyeshadow in Golden Brown and it’s almost like the somewhat shimmer-free version of MAC’s Woodwinked. It’s a warm brown and when it’s blended out it’s got an orange tone that comes to the forefront and just looks all smudgy and blurred and nice. With a bit of the Fairydrops Scandal Queen Mascara on the lashes and the BITE Beauty Agave Lip Mask or whatever lip balm I’ve got close to hand, on the lips I’m ready with my ‘I’m going out and just fancy a little bit of makeup’ face and ready to feast on cinnamon buns at The Nordic Bakery (my new favourite weekend activity).
