Last weekend, Mark and I headed back ‘op North to attend his best friend’s wedding. Mark was Best Man, I cried happy tears approximately four times throughout the day (weddings make me extremely weepy), the weather held out and it was all-round just a beaut of a day. I can actually count the number of weddings I have been to on one hand – being the eldest in my family and friendship group means I’ll be waiting a few years till my summer season is crammed with a big day every other weekend – so I’m lacking in the ‘wedding guest appropriate’ section of my wardrobe, which means that every time one rolls around, outfit panic ensues and I’m left sitting there two days before browsing ASOS and wondering what the hell I’d do without my premier account. Lucky ASOS came up trumps with a silky floral number and once I’d slinked myself into that, everything just fell into place. So here is The Weekend Post: The Wedding Guest Edition…
Let’s talk my outfit first. It was a night before jobbie ordered on ASOS, inspired by the exact outfit that the model was wearing in the thumbnail for the dress. I went for this silky number, which fitted all the relevant criteria (wasn’t black, wasn’t white, wasn’t too tight so I couldn’t enjoy the wedding breakfast, wasn’t too short that it would cause the older members of the wedding party to tut), paired with these shoes which were painfully uncomfortable but paired nicely with the dress. I finished it off with an ASOS Nude Suede Clutch that didn’t look too bulky but turned out to be a Mary Poppins sack fitting in all the essentials and a spare pair of flat sandals. Thank gawd.
The forecast was hot. Like real hot. So I upped my game in the face base section, firstly slapping on the Make Up For Ever HD Primer, sandwiching the Make Up For Ever HD Foundation in 125 and 5 Camouflage Cream Palette in No.2 where needed in the middle and dusting on a pretty hefty application of Bourjous’ Healthy Balance Powder in 51 on top. Through the sweating, tears and attempted dancing at the reception I can’t say that it held in place from ceremony till dawn, but it held its own through the photo taking session and by the time it had made an exit the booze was well and truly flowing and shots were being favoured over snaps. Because there was a bit of pink in the dress I shunned bronzer for once and kept things perky on the cheeks with a dab of Josie Maran’s Argan Colour Stick in Coral which is seriously stunning. It blended well over powder and just made things look fresh.
Then brows were of course taken care of by the usual Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Soft Brunette. Dur. But for eyes I fancied something different. Keeping with the kinda ‘pinky, not so bronzy’ theme I dusted NARS’ Nepal Shadow from the NARSissist Palette all over my lids; a MAC All That Glitter-esque shade that adds a subtle glow to the lids. For a touch of definition I used a bit of Bali, also from the palette, in the crease. It’s an old-skool Anna look but I really liked the result and with a layer of NARS’ Pro-Prime Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base underneath this combo stayed in place all darn day. From 9am-ish to 1.30am the follow morning *inserts round of applause*. As it had been a bit of a late one the night before I used the Smashbox Always Sharp Waterproof Kohl Liner in Bare to tight line and finished things off with a layer (or four) of L’Oreal’s Miss Manga Waterproof Mascara.
For lips I wanted an easy ‘don’t need a mirror‘, peach that complemented the pink shades I was wearing and ended up with an old favourite, NARS’ Lipstick in Barbarella. This is one of those tough not to love colours as it’s sheer, sheeny and gives off an inoffensive dose of colour that I can imagine looks pretty flattering on most. Of course there was one final step though – Urban Decay’s All-Nighter Setting Spray, do your thang.
I will say that the L’Oreal Mascara is tough stuff. I’m only just drying my eyes off now from the Groom’s speech *blub*…
