The Three Drugstore Foundations That Made the Cut

IMG_0391

I thought I had been ‘good‘ when clearing out my beauty stash before heading to the new place. Then when I helped Lily move into her’s I realised that I was still holding on to a shedload of stuff that was probably out of date, smelt weird and I didn’t want to put anywhere near my face. Cue the streamlining session: phase two. Out went a tonne of bits and bobs, but most noticeably I really cut back in the one department where I find it hardest to let go. Foundations. Along with lip glosses I feel like these are the things that can get the most rank over time, so I really had a good sniff and a long think about whether they were formulas I actually used. I binned some, gave the rest to friends and family and now I own just a handful. Of that handful are three budget ones that rock my socks and weren’t off. HOORAY. Here’s what made the cut…

Max Factor Miracle Match Foundation in Light Ivory 40 – £12.99 – from Boots. This is my newest foundation discovery and I’m loving it. It’s one of the palest/most true to my actual non-faux tanned face colour formulas I own, so I think I’ll be whipping this out a lot in the winter months. The finish is medium, though buildable and it’s got a natural skin-like finish that isn’t too matte or too dewy. Plus it’s thin so you can slap it on in a matter of seconds. Nice.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Nude Foundation in Ivory 100 – £7.99 – from Boots. I’d say that this one gives off the most coverage and of all the budget foundations I’ve tried this one hangs around all darn day like the name would suggest. It’s not flat on the skin and still gives some glow, but just looks very natural despite a medium-ish finish. It’s the one I reach for frequently, mainly because the colour match for my skin is spot on.

Bourjois Happy Light Foundation in No.50 Porcelain – £11.99 – from Boots. Off the three, despite this having the name Porcelain – it’s actually more of an olive-toned tan, making it one that I reach for in the summer months (something to be aware of when choosing out your colour). The formula is more suited to that too being lightweight and dishing out a light to medium coverage with a healthy dose of dewiness giving it a ‘tinted moisturiser and some‘ vibe.

This is the part where I’d open up the floor to more drugstore recommendations, but I think today I’ll let you talk amongst yourselves whilst I sit with my fingers in my ears because I need another new foundation like a need a hole in the head….
