It’s been a while since I donned a red lip. The summer gives me a false send of illusion that I am in fact a Victoria Secret’s model (PAH – in what universe!?) and my makeup uniform transforms into a neutral rainbow of earthy tones and bronzey hues, all with a sideorder of a heavy hand of highlighter and for me I find it tough to slot in a dash of rouge with that. Plus it’s hard to find the right ‘summery‘ red; in the warmer months I don’t fancy anything too berry-like or deep. I want something with a hint of heat to it. That’s where Estée Lauder’s Kendal Jenner curated lip colour comes in…
It’s called the Pure Colour Matte Sculpting Lipstick in Restless. It’s limited edition and available exclusively online (a pain because you can’t swatch it, so I’ll do my best to describe it here). Estée Lauder say that it’s ‘part poppy, part orange crush, all matte‘ and I must say that I agree. It’s an orange-based red with a tonne of warmth and a neon-ish property that makes it a full-on ‘in yer face’ shade. The texture is matte, but creamy so there’s a bit of transfer that could happen if you’re getting smoochy and some reapplications required if you’re eating, but with a bit of liner underneath it stays put for hours so it’s worth going through the extra steps. It’s also worth noting that application can be a bit tricky given the matte nature. Not being a lip brush lover, I just make sure I have some makeup remover soaked cotton buds hanging around. Ta-dah!
Compared to other lippies I own this one does come to the forefront as a standout shade, but as always there are a few dupes. The Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in In Love With Ginger is similar in tone, but not in texture and requires a fair amount of blotting down to remove the sheen if you wish to make it matte. The obvious comparison though is with MAC’s Lady Danger, and though this is comparable in texture being a matte finish, Restless is a bit more neon-ish in colour. Oh and I do love a good ol’ neon lip.
If you’re in the market for a summer red then say hello to this little bullet of goodness. It’s no longer V.S vibes anymore with my makeup, I’m channeling my inner Kendall…
