The Straight-Up Charlotte Tilbury Complexion

In Wednesday’s video I promised I’d throw all my new Charlotte Tilbury purchases on my face along with the bits I already had and feedback my thoughts on a 100% C.T base, so here it is…

I guess the first first step in Tilbury’s base routine would be a healthy dollop of her Magic Cream massaged into the face and though I managed to get myself a little sample pot of it when it first released, I must admit that I find it a little heavy for my tastes. Dry gals it might be up your street, but I find it leaves a bit too much shine on my cheeks and it can feel a bit claggy on my complexion. I also don’t have her Wonderglow Skin Illuminator Primer (though I have heard good things, so maybe I should add that to my shopping list?), so I’m moving straight onto foundation with her Light Wonder Foundation SPF15 in Fair 02. I really like this stuff. It’s an almost gel consistency so blends in speedily and provides enough coverage to even things out in a natural way. It’s not matte, nor overly dewy and just looks very subtle on the skin.

Moving onto concealer, I striped her Retoucher Concealer in Fair under my eyes, around the edges of my Rudolph nose and on any blemishes before blending it in with my MAC 188 Brush. It has a medium coverage finish and is very creamy so doesn’t look dry on the skin. Another one I love because it’s very quick in its application. To set everything I applied a light brushing of the Air-Brush Flawless Finish Skin Perfecting Micro-Powder in Fair all over and although this does make things look matte, it does so in again, a very natural way. I got really close up to the mirror and still couldn’t see the powdery texture on my skin. Magic.

To add a bit of oomph to the cheeks I went in with the Filmstar Bronze & Glow, taking the bronzey shade under my cheekbones and across my forehead with the Powder & Sculpt Brush, before dipping into the highlighter and popping it across the tops of my cheeks, inner corner of my eyes and generally all-over because I love a good glow. Though I think there are more defining contour powders out there (*cough* Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder *cough*), the C.T option is a good complexion warmer-upper and it’s conveinent to have the highlighter housed in the same compact. I finished off the cheeks with the Cheek to Chic Blusher in Ecstasy, a new purchase which surprise, surprise – I really like! The coral colour makes for a subtle hit of colour and the slight shimmer means it’s an easy one to blend and apply.

Overall I’m pretty chuffed with the end result. All together it’s a little fuller coverage and more products than I tend to use on my face day to day, but the actual appearance of it on my face is still pretty natural. It certainly doesn’t look like I’m wearing a load of makeup, I don’t think. So Charlotte Tilbury does it again. Next on my list? The aforementioned primer and her Colour-Coded Eyeshadow Palette in The Sophisticate. Anyone got it? Do I need it? Screw that, a ‘want’ will do it.
