Back at the beginning of the year I showed you what my cleared out nail polish stash looked like. It was pretty scarce as I’d majorly downsized from my previous bulging drawer-full and even though we’re well and truly in to the second quarter of the year it’s still pretty tiny (I’ve resisted the urge to replace every single colour I passed on – HOORAY!). I currently own under 20 nail polishes and I never really feel the need to add anymore (aside from Smith & Cult ones because I mean, just look at those bottles man!). In all honestly I’m just not huge on nail lacquer right now. I like to keep my toes painted because without a bit of colour on them they resemble my Dad’s feet and let me tell you, that’s not a good thing. Though when it comes to my fingernails I’m not too bothered if they’re paint-less. As long as they’re not too long and my cuticles haven’t gone too awry then I’m all good. It’s a miracle if I’ve managed to wash my hair that day when I walk out the door, let alone have a perfectly polished set of digits.
With all that being said, the change in the seasons has made me reevaluate my nail polish situation and it’s got me thinking what shades I’d like to don for spring. So here’s my edit of four colours that I plan to rock for the next few weeks. Of course there’s a pastel in there, but there’s a bright too and then of course a few nods to my favourite colour of all – nude. Quelle surprise! So spring-appropriate, non?
Let’s start with the pastel – Smith & Cult Bitter Buddhist. Now I’ve got a fair few S&C shades and this is by far my favourite. It’s a muted mint that dabbles a little with khaki and it’s so darn unique. The application isn’t fab on it, so it requires a caffeine-free hand and a bit of time on the clock, but it’s well worth the extra effort. Compared to the other colours I’ve swatched it looks very ‘BA-BAMB‘ in the photo, but it’s definitely a bit more murky in real life (in a good way).
Nude-wise, I’m still a huge fan of OPI’s Berlin There Done That (swatched second in on the left) and CHANEL’s Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour in Garconne (swatched on the right). The OPI colour is one of best kept secrets. It was part of a collection they released years ago, but it still remains an absolutely cracking taupe. The big brush means that you can dollop it on in a matter of minutes and it’s a hardy formula too. Speaking of hardy formulas, this newly released beauty from CHANEL lasts pretty darn well and it offers a nice cool-grey take on taupe. Something a bit different and perhaps not the most spring-like of shades, but you know me and my monochrome, eh?
OK, onto the fun one – Essie’s Sunshine State of Mind. This is what I’ve been wearing for the past month and I bloomin’ love it. It’s an orange/coral/red that whenever I look at gets me in the mood for summer. We have a few hot weather trips planned this year and I can pretty much guarantee that I’ll be painting this on as I desperately tick off my packing list and wait for a last minute swimwear-heavy ASOS order to arrive. We’ve all be there, right?
