Recently I’ve been harbouring quite the love affair with red nail polish. Note: this has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that one of my girl crushes, Olivia Palermo, is never spotted without a set of perfectly rouged up talons. Promise. But there’s just something about a smooth slick of the stuff on the nails that makes me feel sophisticated, polished and a little bit ladylike – and trust me that’s some feat. I don’t half pick my moments – it may not be the most seasonal choice right now but there’s been not a hint of nude that’s graced my tips for weeks now. Shocking, I know; so welcome the cream of my red polish crop…
The Berry: Nails Inc Tate Polish* – deep, dark and sorta sexy, the polish rides the fine line between black and red. Two coats does it and I actually find the longevity of this stuff to be top notch. Blackberry in a bottle.
The Cherry:Â Revlon Fearless Nail Enamel* – red with a smattering of bubblegum pink; this shade could well be an entry to the ”Don’t Do Red’ Red’ and ‘One Coat Wonder’ categories due to it’s coral cues and pigmented formula.
The Classic:Â & Other Stories Scarlet Red Nail Colour – not too pinky, too dark nor orange – just a straight up letterbox red is what you’re getting here. Props to the curved-in brush too, that snuggly covers the nail in one swipe. I like.
The One Coat Wonder:Â Essie Aperitif Nail Polish – I’ve spoken about my love for this stuff before. One lacquer layer on and you’re done. Simples. Sitting somewhere between ‘The Classic’ and ‘The Berry’ this is one that gets pulled out of my stash in times of indecision.
The ‘Don’t Do Red’ Red:Â CHANEL Holiday Le Vernis Nail Colour – an orange-toned red that bucks the stuffy stereotypes sometimes associates with a rouge coloured nails and is instead guaranteed to give you a bout of ‘new nail’ syndrome. So good, it made the March Favourites cut.
Red polish roster complete, the toughie is now picking out which colour will be painted on next from my rotation. ‘The Berry’? ‘The Cherry’? ‘The Classic’? Beauty blogger problems, eh?
