You know the deal. You’re tired, it’s been a long ol’ few weeks filled with a little less sleep and more excess than usual and then you head back to your family for the holidays and have to put your ‘bright eyed and bushy tailed’ hat on. If you’re like me and you live away from home then chances are you may not have seen the folks for awhile and you want to look well. Even though however I end up looking on the doorstep my Mum will make it her personal mission to feed me up with a never-ending supply of cooked breakfasts, cakes and dinners – though I’m not complaining about the fact that she serves up my stew with three dumplings for me because they’re my favourite. Thanks Mum! So today I’d thought I’d run through my quick fixers – makeup, skincare and otherwise – that instantly wake me up just in time for the annual family gathering…
The Quick Fix Masks. Before you leave an exfoliating, therefore radiance boosting mask isn’t exactly a bad idea and the best bit is that the AHA-based ones don’t even take that long. Five minute tops. For a really quick fix I like the Vitamin C-filled REN Flash Rinse 1 Minute Facial which really does take one minute. But if there’s a bit more time on the clock then I love the OSKIA Renaissance Mask which packs a bit more of a punch to it and leaves skin seriously glowy.
The Skin Juice. Slightly dewy skin just screams well-being and I’ve got two options for when I like things to look nice and juicy in the complexion arena. For daytime there’s the Clarins Beauty Flash Balm. A moisturiser/primer that you pat on and just leaves the skin looking fresh. I’ve shoved this into the hands of many hungover mates. For PM there’s the MV Organics Rose Plus Booster, which I think I’ve raved about so much in recent months that I’ll just leave its name hanging there.
The Eyedrops. After suffering with red itchy eyes for too long and looking like a vampire in many, many videos (got to love the ‘Does this girl have pink eye?’ comments), I’m a recent convert to eye drops and I won’t ever be without a bottle again. My preferred ones are the Optrex Eyedew Dazzling Eye Drops because they rid the pupil of redness and hydrate leaving things looking and feeling more comfortable.
The Blush. You can’t deny that a touch of blush on the cheeks is an instant perker-upper, in light doses of course. In terms of a ‘healthy’ looking shade I love the Max Factor Miracle Touch Creamy Blush in Soft Pink, because it’s not only easy and brush-free to apply, but the dewy finish gives a glow to the apples as well.
The Eye Pencil. It’s a classic. A nude liner in the waterline works wonders, opening the eye up into a doe-eyed shape, but also concealing any redness from crying, tiredness – whatever. There’s a few that I like but in terms of pigmentation and longevity nothing beats the Charlotte Tilbury Rock ‘n’ Kohl Iconic Liquid Eye Pencil in Eye Cheat.
Shhhh – see? It can be our little secret. They’ll never know you were up all last night listening to Serial. Oh wait, that’s me…
