The Polish Picks for Autumn

IMG_9977 IMG_9979

Things are about to get a little nail lacquer-heavy round here today as there’s a Nail Polish Collection video coming very soon (9am over here if you’d like to be one of the first to spot it), so I thought I’d accompany that with my top varnish picks for the incoming autumn season. I think autumn is my favourite time for beauty. The rich burgundies on the lips and deep royal blues on the nail, with tawny colours on the cheeks and eyes. I just think it’s a really flattering look on everyone and it’s so minimal and easy to throw on. Though I’m sure the fact that autumn signifies my birthday and that Christmas is just around the corner also adds to my excitement. Prepare yourself for some obvious autumn nail choices…

Nails Inc Alice and Olivia Nail Polish in Midnight Merlot – £15 – from Nails Inc. If you’re in the market for a dark, brown-toned red that looks a bit black in some lights, then this is it. The formula goes on strong with just two coats and there’s no annoying dragging of colour, plus the brush is just the right size to drop the polish exactly where you want it and not make a mess of the cuticle. Also – the name? Love.

Ciaté x Olivia Palermo Nail Polish in New England Fall – £17 – from Ciaté. Other blues that I own fall into the bright, but royal blue category or are deemed a straight-up navy, but this is somewhere in the middle. It’s almost a deep indigo-y, denim colour. I really like this one. Thumbs up again Olivia.

CHANEL Le Vernis Nail Colour in 671 Ecorce Sanguine – £18 – from Selfridges. I think this might be my favourite of the five. It might not look much in the bottle as it’s a pretty standard not-too-cool, not-too-warm red, but when you paint it on….WOAH. One little layer is all you need of this stuff and you’re left with the most opaque rouge lacquer. It’s pretty special. I have a feeling this colour is limited edition so run Forest…. Run.

Essie Nail Lacquer in After School Boy Blazer – £8.30 – from Amazon. Do you remember this old chestnut? It’s an autumn colour that I picked up two years ago and it’s still one of my favourites. Like the Midnight Merlot, it’s a colour that looks a bit black in some lights, though this pulls blue and when you look really, really closely you can tell it’s a navy. Two layers is all you need and this one dries the quickest too, making it a super speedy option.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Commander in Chic – £6.99 – from Superdrug. I think this might go down in history as the polish that I’ve lusted over for the longest time before purchasing. I have a feeling I’ve eyed this up for around four years, but finally picked it up recently and it’s a great autumn transition shade. Slightly less pastel than the other murky lilacs I own; there’s a bit of purple, grey and beige all mushed up together in there which makes for a surprisingly flattering shade.
