The Pieces To Purchase Now & See You Through Autumn

And next autumn… and the one after that… and the one after that.

It’s that time of the year where despite what the sales are telling you, it’s just not the right time to buy a bikini. Or a straw bag. Or anything that’s remotely summery, because we all know that autumn is just around the corner and it makes more sense to buy a raincoat that it does anything else. Sidenote: I know that *Ganni Raincoat that I bought might be one of my most ridiculous buys, but the wear I’ve had out of this thing!? Unreal. Anyway, there are a few items that will work just as well right this moment, as they will in two months time and this post features them all. So whether you’re in the market for a boiler suit to see you though the milder months, or a bag that doesn’t shout ‘I’M GOING TO THE BEACH – WANNA COME?!’ but still feels light and breezy, please allow me to assist…

A BOILER SUIT

A boiler suit is the epitome of transitional season dressing. It’s like too hot to wear a jacket, but then it’s too cold to go sleeveless? THIS is your guy. I will admit that I haven’t really found the perfect one for me. I feel like there’s a perfect long sleeve, black number with gold detailing that has my name on it, but I’ll keep looking. *Net-a-Porter has THE BEST selection of boiler suits right now, and most of them are in the sale with at leats 60% off, so you can grab a bargain. The *Agolde Black Tatum Belted Denim Jumpsuit looks like a good option if it’s a denim one that you’re after (also available in *Cream), or if you fancy some colour this *Maggie Marilyn + Net Sustain Organic Denim Jumpsuit in LILAC is brill. For a cleaner look this *COS Linen-Mix Belted Wide Leg Jumpsuit is about as simple as they come and will look gorge now with some summer sandals, or in a month or two with a flat loafer.

A SHACKET

Mark has quite honestly nailed the shacket genre. I’m actually pretty jealous of his collection. Different fabrics and colours, but all the same boxy fit that I’m constantly eyeing up to steal for a day (or seven). Again it’s a category that I’m lacking in, but one I feel that I’d get a lot of use out of. I own leather jackets and then wool coats and not really anything in-between and if you’re the same then this might be a sound investment. Something that you can throw over on chilly summer/autumn days and evenings when you want an extra layer but don’t want anything too formal, chunky or heavy to carry. There’s no where else you need to look aside from *& Other Stories. They have a cracking selection available and basically do this *Oversized Wool Blend Workwear Shirt in every colour you could possibly want. It might be a *tad* too thick though, so perhaps their *Denim Workwear Shirt that comes in a fab burnt orange, or their *Belted Denim Wrap Jacket which looks super chic, might be better options.

A LOAFER

It’s the obvious choice, but a loafer puts the work in in anyone’s wardrobe. I’ve basically lived in trainers or *Tevas since the beginning of the year, but now I feel like smartening things up and no longer leaving the house in items that I may or may not have also slept in. I know, it’s been grim. So to smarten up my act I vow to crack out my loafers more often. Of course the *Gucci Horsebit Loafers are the obvious choice here, but there are so many more affordable styles to purchase and steer you away from your daily trainer habit, and for the most part they are easy to pair with a leg-baring summer outfit or straight leg jeans. Whatever you fancy. I’ve had my eye on these *ARKET Suede Loafers for basically the whole of 2020 by this point. I’m an absolute nightmare with suede (imagine a heavy-footed two year old and that’s basically me in any kind of delicate shoe), but these look SO CHIC. A slightly hardier option might be the *Dear Frances Hands Loafers that come in both black and cream (we all know what would be a better option for me, eh?), that look similar to the Gucci pair but without the buckle detail, which I personally prefer.

A TRANSITIONAL BAG

The transitional bag is a tricky one to nail. You might not fancy toting your straw bag around when it’s cold, but then you don’t necessarily want a heavy black leather bag either. You want something that’s just right, in the middle somewhere and so to fill that gap I have two suggestions. I’d either take the raffia with a light leather detail route – I have some suggestions below – that literally borrows from both the summer and autumn trends. Or if you want something that skews more to the autumn side of things, then why not invest in a leather bag, but in a colour that isn’t black? Shocking I know, and it’s not a jump I’ve made myself, but hey – I’m just throwing ideas around here. If it’s the former that you fancy, then I can personally recommend the *Loewe Pouchette Mini Raffia Cross-Body Bag that is the newest addition to my bag collection and is FAB, or the *Elleme Raisin Raffia/Cognac Bag if you fancy something that’s a little larger.
