The Perfect Setting Brush We’ve All Been Waiting For

IMG_8626

Back in the day my motto when it came to powder brushes was, ‘the bigger the better’. I swished the stuff on like it was going out of fashion and easily swirled and buffed my way through a MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural on a near monthly basis. I liked a heavy hand and an even heavier brush back then. Nowadays I’m a bit more accustomed to a slightly less full coverage approach and brushes that tend to be on the smaller side. For setting powder I don’t think you can beat the Bobbi Brown Sheer Powder Brush which does exactly what it says on the tin and for under eyes I love the Bobbi Brown Eye Blender Brush when it isn’t covered in some kind of bronze eyeshadow, but recently I’ve found something in-between that performs both of those functions and even a few others…

Now I feel like I’m a bit late to the party with this one and I’m sure I’ve seen peeps rave about this many times before, but the Real Techniques Setting Brush is everything. It’s now part of the newly released Sculpting Set and while the others in the trio are good, it’s this one that really shone at the sometimes tough job of setting. Just like both the Bobbi Brown brushes it can be used for precision powdering – just taking that shine off exactly where you want it dialled down –  or popping a little brightening powder under the eyes, but it’s got a whole host of other functions up its sleeve. The tapered end and flexible, not firm bristles make it a classic for contouring and highlighting; it tucks neatly under the cheekbones and has enough swirl in it to buff out any harshness. It’s also dense enough to do a bit of base work with, though the size of it means it will take a while. I actually really like this with the Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage, which in the pan is a seriously tough, waxy formula concealer; so I apply to redness or blemishes with my fingers and pat it out with this. It diffuses the coverage without removing the product. Genius.

I may not have had it for long, but it’s entered my brushes haul of fame and is flying at the top. In fact – that’s a blog post right there, right? Anyone up for that?
