The Overnight Edit

As I put the finishing touches to todays post, I’m doing so while waiting to board a Eurostar to Paris. I know – kept that one quiet didn’t I? I have no idea how I managed to avoiding typing out my excitement about it in capital letter littered tweets posted in two hour intervals for the past month. It’s an overnighter courtesy of Clarins to preview what they’ve conjured up for the delight of us beauty buffs over the next few months – I know, pinch me now – and as with any trip, I take an unhealthy amount of enjoyment in the packing process. Lists are made, skincare is counted and verified and there’s been a suitcase with my passport ready and waiting in the corner of my room for the last week. Me? Eager beaver?

As I always mention in these home and away posts, being one half of former long-distance lovers I’ve got the whole beauty on the move thing down. All the usual suspects are already decanted out and the rest streamlined. So my overnight skincare roster reads a little like this. A dinky bottle of Bioderma Crealine H20 Solution to aid makeup removal and Emma Hardie Amazing Face Cleansing Balm scopped into a little pot to do its thing. Remember that Caudalie Beauty Elixir? Yup, that comes along too. Serum duties are being taken care of by Hydraluron, the eye area by Alpha H Absolute Eye Complex* and La Roche Posay Effaclar M Mattifying Moisturiser is sorting moisture injecting activities, minus the grease. Two poured-out products – Alpha H Liquid Gold*, to make my evening routine tonight a little more speedier (makeup remover, cleanser, Liquid Gold, bed), and Clarins Lotus Face Oil* (it’s not a urine sample, promise!), to add an extra layer of hydration at all times – are also bolted on to my routine just so I feel I’ve got options.

Extra additions include two Diptyque samplers in lieu of lugging around a full bottle of fragrance; a spritzer of Philosykos and hard perfume pot of Veloutés should keep me smelling sweet. To make tomorrow mornings shower feel that little more luxe I’ve thrown in Diptyque’s Gel Lavant Revigorant* and Lait Frais* which have been nestling in my ‘save for travel’ drawer for an occasion like this to arrive. I’ve swapped in my heavy duty deodorant for something a little less drying for my pits in Kiehl’s Superbly Efficient Anti-Perspirant and Deodorant. ‘My sleeping stash makes an appearance too; a mini of Aromatherapy Associates Peppermint and Lavender Bath and Shower Oil and This Works Deep Sleep Stress Less, which I’m drawing close to finishing my second roller of. Haircare is whittled down to one product – Oribe’s Dry Texturising Spray – because it’s just that good; tousled, no-care locks in a few nonchalant spritzes. Toothbrush, toothpaste, a wrist-full of hairbands and By Terry Baume de Rose are non-negotiable packing priorities.

I said I was good as this whole travelling light business, but I meant I’m just a pro at taking a suitcase 50% full of beauty products and managing to still fit in actual essentials. And of course there’s room for a bumper pack of Bioderma on the journey home. Intrigued as to what’s being hauled over with me makeup-wise? Well you’ll just have to sit tight for tomorrow’s post. Bon voyage.
