I can be a creature of habit when it comes to makeup and practically everything else in the world. I like routine, you know? It’s the tried and tested bases I reach for, bronze lid combinations I’ve been going to for years and a slick of a trusty balm/gloss hybrid that I know nourishes and looks subtly pouty in equal measures. That’s my sweet spot. However, this Monday I thought I’d mix it up a bit; give a few new products a whirl and not be too precious about the outcome. Blue eyeliner? Bring. It. On.
Whilst I was in L.A I witnessed Lily use the YSL Les Sahariennes Sun-Kissed Blur Perfection every damn morning. She loves the stuff. My interest was piqued and I subsequently picked up the shade 4, smoothed it over my cheeks and could instantly see why she loved it. It’s like the more refined version of CHANEL’s Soleil Tan de CHANEL, which most beauty lovers home but never really use. It’s less tacky and orange, more natural and has a slick texture that sits on the skin without looking greasy or matte. A weird one to describe, so it’s worth having a swatch.
Something I had less success with was the Eyeko Brow Magic Brow Boost in Light to Medium. This is a little bottle of pigment and fibres that can be stroked over brows to give definition and oomph. It’s not the colour that’s the problem here as the grey-toned powder works well, it’s more the messiness of it all. The doe-foot tip means you can’t be too precise in your application and I ended up with colour halfway up my forehead. Not my best look.
For eyes I went for my tried a tested combo when it comes to colour – I know, so much for stepping outside the box, eh? – but a classic bronze paired with a blue liner is always a winner in my eyes. For the lid I finally got round to using my Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerise in Mona Lisa which I purchased months ago and have been gazing lovingly at since. I can confirm that the rich, dark chocolate shade is a beaut and just as good as the others from the range I’ve tried. Liner-wise I used the ever-so-chunky YSL Couture Kajal in 3 – a deep navy. I actually really like the shape of this nib for getting into the waterline because it’s so darn big you can practically do it without a mirror.
Now I had used this lipstick before, but it’s not an oft-reached for one, so out came Charlotte Tilbury’s Matte Revolution Lipstick in Sexy Sienna. I have no idea why this colour gathers dust, because the straight-up peach is right up my street and pairs equally well with a barely-there eye or made-up lid. The matte texture is drying, but not prune-inducing and goes on smooth without dragging.
Monday morning mix-up – complete. Now it’s time to look at a few cute pictures of pets looking all moody and adorable with the caption ‘MONDAY – GROAN’ underneath before actually getting on with my day…
