The Glowy Skin Edit: Five Things You Need

IMG_9964

No matter what season is it, or what finish of complexion is trendy at that moment, dewy skin will always be in for me. There’s something about a peachy looking face with a natural sheen and light bouncing off its planes that just looks healthy. Of course the origin of such glow comes from a good diet, a nice dose of exercise and a tonne of water (good genes doesn’t go a miss either!), but in the beauty department there’s more to it than just a dusting of highlighter if you really want to go all out in the shine department. With that in mind here’s my glowy skin kit from skincare to the final spritz…

1. The Non-Stripping Cleanser. The minute things got instantly glowier in the complexion department was the minute that I started cleansing in a way that my skin enjoyed. For me that’s something that’s oil-laden, non-foaming and removable with a damp muslin cloth. You know what I’m going to say here *cough* OSKIA Renaissance Cleansing Gel *cough*, but recently I’ve been enjoying mixing in the Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser whenever I fancy adding an exfoliating edge to my cleansing step.

2. The Exfoliant. Speaking of exfoliating I recently found something that has made a world of difference to my skincare routine. It’s always nice to add some acids and enzymes into the line-up, but my skin can be a bit sensitive at times and I’d never found anything that had stuck around for long without making things irritated, until I found REN’s Wake Wonderful Night-Time Facial. Jeez – this stuff is good. I use it as the last step in my PM routine and in the morning my skin feels soft, nourished and glowy like I’ve had 15 hours of sleep. Expect a full review soon.

3. The Skin-Like Foundation. I’m having a bit of a floozy foundation moment right now and can’t decide on a favourite, but up there is the Illamasqua Skin Base (I use SB 5.5). With a brush I find this can look a bit heavy so I make sure I go crazy with my BeautyBlender and have a tonne of moisturiser underneath, but the coverage and glow is a beaut. It’s not too sheeny, but gives enough to look natural and it lasts and lasts and lasts….

4. The Glitter-Free Powder. I feel like I’m having a real love affair with highlighters at the moment, so I’m going to be wild and mention three here. WHOOP. If you want a ‘Hello I’m here!’ highlighter, then the BECCA Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Champagne Pop is your guy, however on the other end of the scale with just a barely detectable touch of glow is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light (I use this to set my makeup all over too). In the middle is The Balm’s Mary-Lou Manizer which is one of those formulas that you can dial-up or down depending on how you’re feeling.

5. The Glow Spray. The final step that finishes everything off and really helps to seal in that glowy finish and stop it from seeping into oily territory is to spritz some kind of spray. Now there’s a few that I’ve tried, but in terms of Victoria Secret’s Model-ness nothing comes close the Tacha Dewy Skin Face Mist (they ship to the UK – hooray!) Wow. WARNING: you do not need 10 million sprays of this – two will do! If ever you feel too matte then this will be your new best friend. Trust.
