Buy them now, find a way to wear them all year round…
*This post features an advertorial from NET-A-PORTER & loaned items
My new favourite place to browse on the internet? The NET SUSTAIN* collection at NET-A-PORTER. I’ve always enjoyed a browse of good ol’ NAP, but now they’ve made making sustainable choices with your clothing even easier, by curating an edit of fashion and beauty products that have all been consciously crafted. So whether it’s a pair of jeans that have been made with considered materials, or a dress that’s been crafted using a process that reduces waste – you can now find it all in one place. THANK YOU NAP.
Really it’s a double whammy, a place to buy high quality clothing that will last in your wardrobe for yonks, while knowing that you’re making a more sustainable choice. Win, win. So of course you want to ensure that your purchases are timeless classics, right? The pieces that five years, ten years, however many years down the line you’ll still love, wear and feel bloomin’ fab in. So today I’m collating my favourite pieces from the collection that are in my eyes, multi-tasking staples that will stand the test of time…
THE OVERSIZED SHIRT
Oversized shirts are perhaps the BIGGEST year round staple in my capsule wardrobe. In the winter I can layer them with a vest top underneath (see below for my edit of those!), but in the summer you can throw them on as a light jacket, a beach cover-up, wear them with shorts, trousers, tied up over the top of a dress to make it into a skirt. I have many in my wardrobe in a variety of fabrics and colours (LOL – black, white and blue), and they are an integral part of my working from home uniform. Recently I have been enjoying a blue shirt – like this Emma Willis Sky Brushed Cotton Shirt* – with some pale wash denim on my bottom half. But if you like a twist on a classic, then the BITE Studios Oversized Crinkled-Organic Cotton Shirt* might be one to add to your basket. Also let’s not forget a silk shirt which is always a beaut of a piece, and great for slightly more formal occasions. I love ones from ASCENO, like this midnight blue Milan Silk-Washed Pyjama Shirt* that’s just too nice to wear to bed.

THE TANK
No one needs convincing that a black vest top is a wardrobe essential. A layering piece for cooler months and a basic must-have during the summer. I always said a black vest top was the most boring purchase of all, but I’ve obviously never bought the BITE Studios Ribbed Organic Cotton Tank*. With these Aaizél Wool-Blend Wide-Leg Pants*, this outfit made me feel like I was a put together professional LADY. I vow to wear this wide-leg-vest-top combination more. I. LOVE. IT. I do like the look of this mustard version from Goldsign* too and I do enjoy the idea of this Skin Georgina Stretch Cotton Jersey Bodysuit* that is a great option for if you’re wearing a lighter fabric on your bottom half like linen or silk, and don’t much fancy the bunching up of a vest top to tuck in. But if it’s just the simplest of wardrobe basics that you’re after then the Ninety Percent Ribbed Organic Cotton-Jersey Camisole* is your answer.

THE STRAIGHT LEG JEAN
I feel like whenever I collate of post of wardrobe staples, straight leg jeans are always, always included – but it’s for good reason. If I have managed to peel myself out of my well-worn jogging bottoms, then nine point five times out of ten, I’m wearing straight leg jeans. A style that cinches you at the waist, tapers around the ankle slightly and shows a bit of ankle, is something that I wear for every single season whether it’s paired with a flip flop or a chunky boot. And I have to say I do enjoy a light wash, especially in the warmer months. With a crisp white t-shirt and some black sandals? Lush. These Acne Studios High-Rise Straight Jeans* were just the *perfect* wash, so I’ve actually picked up a pair to add to my wardrobe permanently (plus they are currently 50% off in the sale – HOORAY!). If you want a similar style in a cream denim then check out this Goldsign* pair, or these Agolde* pair if you like a mid-wash blue jean.

THE CARDIGAN
Wool?! Layers?! Something that covers your body in any way shape or form?! I know, I know. After the heatwave of last week, it’s hard to stomach the idea of a cardigan but hear me out on this one. As someone who loves a blizzard-like blast of air-conditioning on their face, whilst being bundled up on every other part of their body, I do love a little cardigan. Maybe I get it from my Mum who owns a button-down cardigan in approximately 30 colours, but a light layer that you can throw over your outfit when things get chilly comes in just as handy in the winter, as it does on a ‘too cold for just a vest top’ summers evening. This Aaizél Ribbed Wool Blend Cardigan* is a nice spring/summer option thanks to the neutral knit, but once again BITE Studios has some stellar layering options like their Ribbed Organic Cotton & Silk-Blend Cardigan* that comes in both a cream and a back. For the current weather situation I’d be keeping it on hand for sunset walks, and for winter I’d be layering it up with a cashmere jumper underneath.

THE SUMMER DRESS
Ok, are you ready for the pièce de résistance? This MATTEAU Open Back Tiered Cotton-Poplin Maxi Dress* is something else. Even Mark did an audible gasp when he saw this dress. As a devoted jeans and a t-shirt girl this was quite the jump for me, but due to it’s oversized nature it’s one of those pieces that could be worn around the house, down the beach, or dressed up with a low bun and big earrings for your next summer wedding (plus points for the fact that you could easily hide some flat sandals under it too). The colour. The fit. The open back? SWOON. Sure it’s a summer piece, but there’s nothing to stop you wearing a t-shirt or turtleneck under it to eke it out in those transitional months. MATTEAU are where to head if you’re in the mood for a chic-as-hell dress, like their Open Back Stretch-Knit Maxi Dress* or their Frayed Linen Maxi Dress*. However if you fancy something a wrap waist then I’d point you in the direction of the Mara Hoffman Francesca Hemp Wrap Dress*.
