The Five Most Worn Things From My Capsule Wardrobe So Far

Wardrobe1Wardrobe

I’d say that so far my capsule wardrobe experiment is going pretty well. I haven’t bought any clothing since the beginning of September when my challenge began, nor have I had the urge to buy anything or one of those ‘balls – I haven’t got anything to wear‘ moments either. In fact I think because there is this self-imposed ban on shopping, it means that when events and occasions come up where before I would have panic purchased something instead I just make it work. I have a pair of faux-leather trousers and a few dressy tops – what more does a girl need? There’s a capsule wardrobe how-to video in the works and a look into my autumn wardrobe too, but in the meantime I thought I’d spotlight the five items that I’ve been pulling out the most so far…

THE SHOES – Kurt Geiger Leopard Print Slip-Ons (no longer available but similar here). Whether I’m running errands or wandering along the beach at the weekend and desperately attempting to Penny board these are what I reach for. In fact I think some kind of shoe that doesn’t need lacing or zipping up are a must because they’re just so quick and easy to quite literally slip on when you’re in a pinch. I also love the pattern. A little bit of leopard is always nice to jazz up a simple outfit.

THE TROUSERS – Reiss Darla Claret Skinny Trousers (which were unfortunately in the wash when I was taking the pictures for this post – but click on the link to see them in action). I needed some kind of bottom half alternative to jeans because that’s literally all I ever wore and these are perfect. Pricey (but made a little easier by a gift card that I got for my birthday – thanks Jill and Andy!), the fit is spot-on. I take my usual size and the cut is great; kinda skinny, but not ‘sprayed-on‘ looking. Also the deep wine colour is just beautiful; again it adds something to my usual all-black uniform and they can be worn casually or to formal things.

THE JUMPER – Reiss Grey Marl Merino Wool Jumper. When it comes to working from home or a relaxed Sunday lunch, I love to throw this on with a pair of boyfriend fit jeans and boots. It’s basically the epitome of relaxed casual and I feel like I should be in Gap advert when I wear it which is always a good thing, right? The fabric is soft and daymn does it warm me up. Plus I like that it shows a bit of chest, but not too much *makes a mental reminder to remember to bring foundation down the neck*

THE COAT – ZARA Fleece Lined Parka. Oh this is so cosy. My most-worn coat for sure mostly because it’s the most practical. Thick and fleece-lined it keeps me nice and toasty and actually looks good too without making me look like the Michelin man (too much!). I feel like this will be a staple for winter as well – this ain’t going anywhere when it comes to my capsule rejig.

THE SHIRT – Whistles Mini Loop Print Shirt. I’ve just noticed that everything that I’ve written about here isn’t black *pats self on back*. Now this shirt isn’t exactly bright and still sits in the monochrome family, but the loud print means that it’s something a little different for me and again it’s one of those dress-up/dress-down numbers – got to love Whistles for that. I’ve worn this for everything to shoots to nights out and I never feel over or under dressed – magic.

P.S) Apologies for the fact that you couldn’t actually see me wearing these items. Tripod outfit shots are not where my talents lie and Mark has been too busy for me to coax him into a photoshoot with the promise of him being able to watch F1 all weekend without me complaining. Next time – I swear!
