Say hello to this month’s instalment of The Fitness Files; an update of all things sweaty that drops on the first of every month. You ready for round ten? Let’s do this…
THE SONG TO ADD TO YOUR PLAYLIST – Kanye West – Stronger, because who doesn’t love a bit of old school Kanye? I went and saw him concert when this song was first released and he played it on stage for a full 10 minutes and it was glorious.
THE WORKOUT VIDEO TO GIVE A GO – September saw the arrival of my 26th birthday (I’m firmly in the ’25 and overs’ category on X Factor now) and on the morn of my birth I finally got to give Yoga with Adriene’s Birthday Yoga Video a go. I’d saved it up as it felt a bit like cheating not doing it on my actual birthday, but if you feel like being naughty then I highly recommend it. A quick flow that works up a bit of a sweat, packed with moments of gratitude that felt really nice.
THE RECIPE THAT’S WORTH A WHIRL – Lily got me this recipe book called Breakfast: Morning, Noon & Night for my birthday and being the huge fan of the first meal of the day that I am I’ve been giving a tonne of the how-to’s inside a whirl. My favourite so far is their bircher muesli recipe which basically tastes like having dessert for breakfast. I’ve tweaked the recipe a little and I’m still playing with it as it’s a bit too sweet for me (it must be super sweet because that’s a phrase I never say!), but I’ll share it when it’s juuussstttt right.
THE FITNESS CLOTHING PIECE TO ADD TO YOUR WARDROBE – I’ve been good and haven’t added to my practically bursting workout wardrobe in a while, but the new brands and pieces that have landed on Fashercise for the autumn season are seriously testing my willpower. The Alala Black Leopard Capain Leggings look comfortable and so chic that I’d want to wear them when I wasn’t all sweaty and the new brand No Ka’Oi has some beautiful graphic print pieces.
THE ROUTINE THAT I’LL BE DOING FOR SEPTEMBER – so September threw a few curveballs fitness-wise. Muay Thai was going well until my best friend and workout partner tore her cartilage whilst doing a Mel-C type high kick. Poor thing – thankfully she’s doing better now. So instead I’ve headed to BodyCombat classes with my Mum once a week which has been fun. I’ve never felt so awfully uncoordinated in a class, but it’s a good laugh. I gave the BodyStrong by Ashley Galvin plan on the Cody App a go and let me tell you – it was HARD. So hard that I’ve yet to complete a class without pausing a good 10 times to huff and puff. So for October I’m planning on doing something that makes me sweat every weekday, be it a yoga session, a BodyStrong class or a run. I actually went for my first run in months in September and though it was my slowest run ever (officially – thanks Nike running app!), it was so nice to run again. I took my time, gulped down some fresh air and took it easy. Let’s see how this goes…
