The Fitness Files: November

November Fitness Files

Say hello to this month’s instalment of The Fitness Files; an update of all things sweaty that drops on the first of every month. You ready for round eleven as The Weekend Post has a day off? Let’s do this…

THE SONG TO ADD TO YOUR PLAYLIST – now this category seems a bit irrelevant now as I mostly do yoga as my main source of exercise which I don’t have a soundtrack for. So this month I’m turning the tables on you – what songs are you loving getting sweaty to at the moment?

THE WORKOUT VIDEO TO GIVE A GO – Yoga for Spinal Health – technically this video is part of the Yoga with Adriene 30 Days of Yoga challenge, but it’s one of my favourite ones, so I say stuff it and give it a go whenever you feel like it. There’s a bit of tree pose practice in there which I like because I can actually do it, albeit a rather wobbly version.

THE RECIPE THAT’S WORTH A WHIRL – I highly recommend a purchase of Gizzi Erskine’s Gizzi’s Healthy Appetite. It’s got some great recipes in there and the New York Style Meatballs and Gravy with Courgetti is one of my favourite dinners that I’ve ever made – if I do say so myself. It’s pretty quick to whip up, but it’s the tomato sauce that does it for me because it’s just the right balance of sweet and tangy. I’m planning on rustling up a big batch and just using it as a base in all my tomato-centric dishes because it’s that good.

THE FITNESS CLOTHING PIECE TO ADD TO YOUR WARDROBE – not a clothing item and I’m asking for your recommendation here again, but I’ve been eyeing up a purchase of another travel yoga mat because my old one got misplaced in the move and I actually got a fair amount of use out it before it went walkies. It was thin and rubberised on the bottom and it folded up teenie tiny, but I haven’t really seen anything yet online to replace it. Any suggestions?

THE ROUTINE THAT I’LL BE DOING FOR NOVEMBER – during October I completed another cycle of Yoga with Adriene’s 30 Days of Yoga. It’s my favourite fitness challenge that I’ve tried because it’s realistic; just a 15 to 30 routine to follow each day that can be done anywhere and everywhere with minimal equipment and no jumping around that will drive your neighbours wild if you decide to do it in the morning. Been there done that. I’m planning on doing the same for November, but I’m still toying around with the idea of a personal trainer to mix up my workouts a little and target certain areas that need toning up. Perhaps I’ll factor it in as a little new year ‘Treat Yo’Self’ moment because dayum is it pricey.
