Say hello to this month’s instalment of The Fitness Files; an update of all things sweaty that drops on the first of every month. You ready for round seven? Let’s do this…
THE SONG TO ADD TO YOUR PLAYLIST – this might be a bit of a weird one, but for this month’s suggestion I’d throw it out there to listen to nothing at all. Without getting too deep, it’s quite nice to tune in and see what your breath is up to (mine usually sounds like I’m two seconds away from passing out).
THE WORKOUT VIDEO TO GIVE A GO – Fightmaster Yoga’s Yoga Fix 90. Lesley’s videos are my new addiction. Soft, soothing and challenging in a way that’s actually really rewarding and not disheartening. One minute it’s Downward Dog and the next it’s Bird of Paradise and I’m like ‘woah‘ and actually surprising myself with some of the moves I can halfway achieve. Of course being more advanced than I’m used to I also end up crumpled on the floor about five times a session.
THE RECIPE THAT’S WORTH A WHIRL – I’ve got to give a nod to Madeleine Shaw’s ‘Get The Glow’ book again because it’s all Mark and I have really eaten from for the past month. The Cherry Crumble was a particular highlight and is one I reckon I’d crack out for the rest of my family when they come to visit because it tastes so good, but isn’t sugar or butter heavy. Amazing.
THE FITNESS CLOTHING PIECE TO ADD TO YOUR WARDROBE – this month has been all about ALO Yoga (I’m having a real Yoga moment if you can’t already tell). I always wondered where all the Yoga folks I follow on Instagram got these cool ‘above the knee’ contrasting coloured leggings from and it turns out they are the ALO Yoga Goddess Ribbed Leggings. I have them in the Black/Stormy Heather combination and they’re ridiculously comfortable, whilst being flattering and functional. Plus they’ll help keep your ankles and feet warm in the cooler months and they make you feel like a Dancer.
THE ROUTINE THAT I’LL BE DOING FOR JULY – July is the month where I’m heading to L.A and moving homes so I’m fully prepared for fitness to take a backseat, but if I can get a little sweaty three-ish or so times a week then I’ll pat myself on the back. Yoga and running as always will be my weapons of choice. Right now I’m on Day 13 of Fightmaster Yoga’s Yoga Fix 90 and I’m really enjoying it. It’s a lot higher intensity than I’m used to, but I get a heavy sweat on every session and I’m finding that my flexibility is getting better; though the other day I managed to touch my toes and the next time I tried I was miles away. I have my bendy days and I have my not-so-bendy days you know?
