Ready for the monthly drop of all things sweaty? Say hello to April’s instalment which includes another Lululemon fave, a banana flavour-free smoothie recipe and a look at the routine that I’ll be following for the next four weeks…
THE INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT TO FOLLOW – I can’t believe I haven’t mentioned her on here yet, but Zanna Van Dijk is my major fitness crush. She keeps it real, eats pizza, deadlifts like a badass and has one of the best legging collections I’ve seen (soon to include her own designs!). I’ve been lucky enough to meet and she really is just as lovely as she comes across in all of her posts and videos. Absolute babe.
THE RECIPE THAT’S WORTH A WHIRL – Chocolate Almond Smoothie. Since getting a NutriBullet I’ve been experimenting with recipes and desperately trying to get myself into bananas because they seem to be in every darn smoothie recipe ever. I’ve found that half a frozen banana, one scoop of chocolate protein powder (I use this one), 250ml almond milk and a tablespoon of almond butter creates a thick consistency that doesn’t taste too much of banana and gives a nice hit of protein post-workout.
THE CURRENT KIT CRUSH – Another month, another Lululemon purchase. It’s the Sculpt Tank in Black this time around and I’m in love. It doesn’t look much, but it feels like I’ve been looking for something like this for yonks. It’s form-fitting, but not overly tight and has some nice detailing around the back which gives your bra straps a peek if you’re wearing something fancy and just shows a bit of back if not. It’s cut high on the arms so doesn’t get in the way and the fabric is so soft and breathable, I’ve been trying to get away with wearing it day-to-day. No one’s noticed, right?
THE SUPER-MOVE THAT’S WHIPPING MY BUTT – Weighted squats are kind of my nemesis right now. Of all the powerlifting moves this is the one I struggle the most with (actually screw that, it’s bench press – but that’s a whole different kettle of weak fish), but it’s one that I really, really want to nail. A combination of weak glutes and tight hips has meant that each rep is a struggle, so I’m working on it with a combination of stretchy yoga (Yin Yoga is all kinds of amazing) and booty focused exercises. Squats – I will nail you….at some point.
THE ROUTINE THAT I’LL BE DOING IN APRIL – March was another successful month at the gym. I managed to squeeze in three weightlifting sessions a week, Yoga twice a week and then one Yin Yoga session every Sunday (that usually ends with me falling asleep on the floor of our front room). I plan to do the same for April, but I’m doing some travelling this month so am going to have to venture into a world I’ve never stepped in before – hotel gyms. Paul’s going to write me up some routines so I can keep up with things (kinda) even when I’m away, which will be a real test of my willpower. I’ll let you know how this one goes…
