The False Lash Debate

Double Photo TestBack in the day I was a little addicted to false eyelashes. I’ve added some visual references here of me in my Uni days where you can also see I had a thang with fake tan and a willingness to go heavy handed with the highlighter. I’ve toned down my tastes since then, but one thing I never failed to haphazardly stick on before a night out in a questionable state was a big ol’ pair of lashes. And when I say big, I mean big. The photo on the left is when I experimented with double band lashes and consequentially gave a racoon vibe to my look and on the right I’m sporting a pair of un-numbered Eyelures that stretched up to my brows. Go big or go home was my mantra. Since then my feelings towards the hairy little strips have changed, but lashes are something then when brought up split the lash lovin’ population down the middle – love ’em or hate ’em.

Now, probably down to two factors – the fact that I barely ever set foot outside the flat after 9pm except to pick up another tub of Ben & Jerry’s (Grannie Annie, or what?) and that I’m now into a more au natural aesthetic – lashes are something that I rarely reach for. But still being a fan of a full lash look there are moments when I come crawling back to my faux ways. And for when that occasion arrises I have a few recomendations. I’ve swapped in the brow skimming Eyelure’s for their Ultra Natural Range and find the Full Blend of black and brown natural hairs, paired with the most invisible band ever, to add a bit of volume without looking too overdone. In fact I wore these with curled lashes sans mascara the other day and no one batted an eyelid.

When I’ve got a bit more time on my hands and they’re feeling steady I crack out the Luxe Individuals from Kiss. Fiddly, but worth it and a few medium-length dotted on the outer corner subtly beefs up the lashline. The next pairs I’ve been saving for a special occasion that hasn’t arisen yet so I’ll just give a nod to the Shu Uemura’s in Black Focal* and Soft Cross*. I’m secretly hoping for something glam to pop up in my diary so I can forgo my nightly Ben & Jerry’s jaunt and wisp up my lashline with these.

I sit on the faux lash fence; it’s now a rarity that I go to the finger fumbling fuss of sticking a pair on, but you can’t knock the subtle cateye that a flutterful pair can eek out. So the question is to lash-up or stick to a lick of mascara?
