When it comes to Charlotte Tilbury, every item I’ve tried I’ve been impressed by. The Eyeshadow Quads? Stunning. The Matte Revolution Lipsticks? Wowzer. The Eye Pencils? Out of this world. You get the gist. But it’s been a while since I had a proper peruse and purchase at a Tilbury counter, mainly because that involves trekking into town and sharpening my elbows on the always busy, never relaxing Oxford Street, but a few weeks ago I found myself in a surprisingly sleepy Selfridges with the ever enabling Lily Pebbles and out came my purse (along with a gift card that had been burning a hole in my pocket which softened the blow of the below)…
The headline here is that I finally got round to purchasing the cult favourite of the line – the Filmstar Bronze & Glow Palette. Two years. Two years it took me! You know the deal with this one; a sculpting bronze on one side of the stunningly presented compact and a yellow-y golden highlighting powder on the other. Do I love it? Yes. Here’s the thing though. The highlight side is flawless. A glow-giving powder that creates sheen, not shine. Just think J.Lo. However the bronze side is exactly that to me. It’s more of a bronzer, not a Kevyn Aucoin-esque shadow-toned sculpter, but this does mean it’s a colour that you can dust all over your face and the warmth means that you can get more of a natural definition out of it. Just use a light hand because boy is this pigmented.
The other Lily-enabled purchased was the Light Wonder Foundation in 2 Fair and I think I may have found my new everyday foundation go-to. Firstly, the colour match is spot on. Secondly, the texture is a beaut. It’s kinda like the CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation, but with a bit more glow and a bit more coverage. It lasts well and just looks like skin and I’m forever grateful to Lily for introducing me to it. If you’re in the market for a dewy looking foundation that’s one step up from a tinted moisturiser then add this to your shopping list.
The other blogger enabled purchase was the Take it All Off Genius Eye Make-Up Remover, praised by Caroline for its no-nonsense makeup removal duties. It’s a bi-phase liquid, much like the Clarins Instant Eye Makeup Remover, though it comes in a much more sophisticated packaging with a push-down pump which makes soaking your cotton pad easy peasy (and the whole process way more fun). Being such a big fan of the Clarins I’ve got to say that the C.T one doesn’t quite pip it to the post, though it does come close; the C.T one requires just a little bit more work, whereas the Clarins literally melts stubborn mascara and liner away (I’m telling you, this stuff is magic). Though I do prefer the packaging, so I think from now on I’ll be decanting my Clarins formula into this bottle.
Finally, a bit of a miscellaneous purchase because on this particular morning of shopping I had just swooped a crease brush that had previously been dipped into a deep olive green eyeshadow over my lids when all I wanted was a wash of a neutral taupe (FAIL: note to self – must wash brushes more) – the Charlotte Tilbury Eye Blender Brush. It reminds me of a Sephora brush I picked up years ago (since discontinued), or a slightly slimmer version of the MAC 224 Brush. It’s floppy enough to blend colour, but small enough that you can get a precise application of colour to your crease, especially for gals like myself who lack lid-space. It’s also ridiculously soft. Yes I’m now just sitting here swishing it all over the back of my hand.
So all in all a successful splurge. You’ve done it again Ms Tilbury. Yep, I’m still swishing…
