Charlotte Tilbury’s makeup line; music to a beauty lovers ears. You’ve dreamt of it, you’ve waited and now it’s here. Just in case you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months I’ll catch you up. Tilbury is a bit of a veteran in the Makeup Artist world, doing her thang for the last 20 years on every single pretty face in the book. You name her, Charlotte’s had her in the chair. Now she’s turned her masterful hands to her own makeup line and it’s gooood.
I was lucky enough to meet Charlotte at her studio a few months back and have a play with the line, and what an extensive one it is. Bases, colour, brushes, skincare – even eyelash curlers feature in the lineup – Charlotte has got every step completely covered. Having swatched, marvelled and swooned over it all, I’ve cut it down to my three favourites which made it into my Selfridges basket come the launch date. Show and tell time…Â
Without a doubt the product I fell in love with the most were the Colour Chameleon Colour-Morphing Eyeshadow Pencils. You know the drill – cream eyeshadow, long-wearing, housed in a pencil get-up, but these are a little different. Charlotte’s designed two shades for each eye colour – one for day and one for evening – that perfectly compliment your iris. Being a green eyed gal I picked up Bronzed Garnet and Amethyst Aphrodisiac and what can I say? They do seem to enhance my emerald peepers. Bronzed Garnet is a natural favourite, a rusty bronze (as shown in the picture above on the lid), but I can see myself sporting the more purple toned Amethyst Aphrodisiac in the eve (as shown in the picture above on the lower lashline). My only critique of these is that on the lid they don’t give the smoothest application; I’ve found the best way to apply them is over primer and rubbed on to the end of a blending brush and washed over the lid or worn just as a thick liner and smudged out with the fingers. But the colours, well they’re all stunners.
The brushes were the other thing that caught my eye that I’d recommend adding to your lists. Beautifully made and carved so that they lie flat without rolling around (I may have been a little too excited about this), the Powder and Sculpt Brush found its way into my basket. Smaller than any other face shaper brushes in my stash, it tucks under the cheekbones nicely to muster up some sculpting when paired with powder. The tiny nib makes it perfect for highlighting and precision powder application too. A good all-rounder.
The line is ripe for pickings now on-counter at Selfridges Oxford Street and online at Selfridges, Charlotte Tilbury and Net-A-Porter. Pick away. There’s plenty to choose from.
P.S) I have a sneaking suspicion some of you may ask about my feelings on Charlotte’s Magic Cream, so…. personally I’m not a fan, it’s a little greasy and heavy for my tastes. Over and out.Â
