When it comes to certain aspects of my beauty routine I can be pretty set in my ways. My mascara is always the same, my brow product, the lipgloss that I reach for – they don’t vary much, but thinking about it, my concealer does. I reckon I have just as many concealers as I do foundations residing in my daily grabs stash (and we all know how much I love a good foundation) and it’s rare that I use the same one day in, day out. I have more of a concealer family that work together to correct and perfect certain beauty boo boo’s that crop up each morning. I’m not sure I’ve ever collated them together in a post like this, so today I thought I’d talk you through what concealer I use for what…
The Best Concealer For… BLEMISHES – Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage in SC-3. Nothing compares to this when it comes to covering up a raging red pimple (though the Rimmel Lasting Finish Concealer in 010 Porcelain does come close). It’s thick and waxy and on first inspection doesn’t look like the kind of texture that you want to slap on your face, but warmed up with the fingers and patted and blended onto the offending area it works wonders with its high pigment formula. Just blend. And blend again. And again.
The Best Concealer For… REDNESS – Estée Lauder Doublewear Stay-in-Place Concealer in 1N Extra Light. I seem to possess a year round festive Rudolph-like red nose and the accompanying redness around the nostrils which is one of my best features. Not. Though a light coverage foundation takes the edge off, sometimes I fancy something a bit more hefty and that’s where this comes in. It’s a little creamier than the Laura Mercier so doesn’t leave any dryness behind making it easier to use for larger areas, but it’s still as long lasting.
The Best Concealer For… UNDER EYES – CHANEL Correcteur Perfection Concealer in 10. Unless I’ve had the world’s longest sleep which on the odd occasion does happen (one Saturday I slept in till 2pm – it was glorious), then most days I need some brightening under the eyes. Right now I’m reaching for this CHANEL one because it packs a decent whack of coverage, but is a light, thin texture that blends well and sets to a brightening, though not necessarily dewy, finish. It just looks natural.
The Best Concealer For… DARK CIRCLES – Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer in Sand. When I’m really tired, I need a step up from my usual under eye concealer as things get seriously dark and grey. I still think this is the best one for disguising any of those tones because the slightly peachy hue seems to do a good job of counteracting the grey and the formula is creamy, but if used in thin layers doesn’t crease on me and stays in place all darn day.
The Best Concealer For… USE WITHOUT FOUNDATION – Clarins Instant Concealer in 01. If I’m having a good skin day, I’ll just stripe concealer under my eyes and on any redness before blending it out and realising that I’ve basically used this light coverage concealer as a foundation over 80% of my face. This concealer works so well for that because it’s slightly dewy in finish, so never looks dry and there’s enough coverage to brighten under the eyes and sort out any red areas without looking heavy. The Maybelline The Eraser Eye Perfect & Cover Concealer in Light works well for this task too.
