When the warmer weather rolls around (which in the UK happens in like June), I pack up my bolder lip choices and unload my peachy/nude/pink, ‘I’m not wearing anything on my lips – promise‘ shades. Mainly because I struggle along with the hot weather, wiping the beads of sweat off my face while panting just walking up the road – it’s a miracle that I wear any makeup at all. Things get more manageable when the weather gets turned down a notch and I rather enjoy piling on the makeup a little more than usual; dialling up the eyes and lacquering back up with my bolds. This is where the berry comes back. The perfect colour choice for those who need an easy way in to something more daring on the lips, with its natural raspberry tones that compliment all complexions, whiten teeth and make things look a bit wintery – in a good way. What’s not to love? I’ve edited it down to my top three berries for those who want pointing in the right direction…
Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss Matte Lipstick in 107 – ahhhh, the classic. The reason why this one always gets twisted up and swiped on when I’m back in the mood for berries is threefold. Firstly, the colour. It’s not too dark nor purple and the reddish tone makes it easy to wear. Secondly, the texture which is sort of a satin. There’s a hint of sheen in the finish but it leans more to the matte side of things which leads me on to the third point – longevity. This stuff stays around. No need to worry that it’s smudged on to your chin Joker-style halfway through the day.
CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine in 96 Aura – now this is the most purple one of the trio, but its super glossy texture makes it a wearable option. It can be glided over the lips lightly for a dimming down of your natural colour or smooshed on more heavily for a true blackberry-stained lip look. I say pair it with a bit of colour in the cheeks to stop it looking too colour-zapping and remember as always when it comes to these kind of shades that lashings of mascara is the perfect accompaniment.
KIKO Ace of Diamond Lipstick in 27 – a new release and the one I’ve donned for the picture above. The shade sits in-between the previous two with a nice balance of purple and red and the formula is so soft and smooth. It also smells good – a fruity vanilla that makes me a bit hungry when I get a whiff – and the longevity isn’t bad considering the fact that it practically melts into lips. I think we have a new favourite on our hands here…
