I couldn’t get to the end of the year without including my mate Siobhan as a Beauty Bag candidate. A true beauty lover she blogs everyday over at A Girl and a Beauty Blog and when it comes to what foundation I need to buy next or what blush will tip Tarte’s Tipsy off the top spot then she’s my go-to gal. A lover of dewy skin and bronzed eyes I was itching to have a riffle through her makeup stash and it threw up some good’uns which have duly been added to my shopping list. Take it away Siobhan…
“My base of choice at the moment is the Origins Plantscription Foundation in 03 Light/Medium. I’m not quite ready to go for the YSL Serum Foundation of last winter yet, so this just gives decent coverage, with a dewy satin-y finish. It gives a bit of radiance to my face when it’s grey outside and it’s not having any of it. Now this is the concealer that you need – the Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Concealer in Medium 22. There are so many shades of this; when I tried the consistency I was like ‘great, yes I like it’, then I looked down and was so confused by which one to pick up. You need the smallest amount, but it’s so creamy and so blendable and has such good coverage. It just melts into the skin and feels so light. To me it just feels like I’m putting on a tinted moisturiser, but in concealer form.
You know I love my blush and right now the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Luminous Flush is just beyond. It looks quite pinky in there, but when it’s applied it just gives a nice flush and because it has the luminosity to it, I don’t need to bother with a highlight. It’s like a sheerer version of Tarte’s Tipsy, with a highlighter combined already in it.
For eyes I keep things smokey and bronzed and I always prime with the NARS Pro-Prime Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base. I use the Bobbi Brown Longwear Cream Stick Shadow in Golden Bronze most mornings either all over the lid, smoked out with something darker in the crease or just popped in the crease to oomph it up. You can use it quite heavy or sheer it out more which is what I tend to do. My holy grail all-time favourite eyeshadow though is the Bourjois Colour Edition 24hr Eyeshadow in Petale de Glace. This washed all over the lid is great. It’s a soft, pinky, ‘All That Glitters‘ shade, but because it’s creamy it lasts a bit longer.
A purchase I picked up on my recent trip to Las Vegas is the Smashbox Full Exposure Travel Palette. This is something else that you need to buy when you go to New York. The packaging is so jacked-up, it’s impossible to open as well, but look at those shades! It’s so tiny, but they’ve managed to get 8 colours in there. I use them all. When it comes to my HG eyeliner I love the Paul & Joe Liquid Eyeliner in 01. It’s made in Japan and it’s somethin’ else. For a girl who’s never really worn eyeliner in her life, I’ve now done a daily flick all year thanks to this – that’s how good it is. (I inspect and observe that it’s very similar to the Tom Ford one that I love – dupe alert ladies). This is my second one. I can do a natural line, a dramatic one – you can’t go wrong with it.
Most days I don’t do anything with my brows as by the time I get to them I’m like ‘I need to catch my train in 5 minutes and run out the front door’, so I just put on the Benefit Gimme Brow in Light/Medium for a tiny bit of colour. It helps to keep my brows in shape and gives them a bit of definition, plus it makes them look a bit fuller. It’s just so quick and easy.
For lipsticks I have a few. My everyday nude is the L’Oreal Collection Prive Lipstick in Julianne’s Nude. You can tell by how much I’ve used it! It’s a soft – not back to the MAC Myth days – pinky nude. Whenever I don’t know what to put on my lips, I go for this. I love the red one too – I’ve got the whole collection! If I want something bolder I use the Clinique Chubby Stick Intense in Roundest Raspberry. This is my favourite berry that I’ve tried. It’s quite purple-y, but I wear this to work – I’m on a tube at 8am in the morning whacking this on. I find that the more purple toned ones just give more colour to my face.
In terms of what makeup I carry around with me, I always have my powder of choice – CHANEL’s Le Beiges Heathy Glow Powder in B10 – in there. I never use it in the mornings, it’s something I apply when I’m out and about, because it’s not a powder you ever have to worry about looking like you’ve got a load of it caked on your face. I apply it using the Real Techniques Retractable Kabuki, but I also use this brush for concealer, blush, whatever. Then there’s always a few rollerballs in there. At the moment it’s Stella, Fresh’s Brown Sugar and Elizabeth and James Nirvana White. I also thrown in a mini of Clinique’s High Impact Mascara, that just layers so well and a mini of MAC’s Strobe Cream too which just lifts my complexion after a long day in the office. All lobbed into my Whistles Pouch – done.”
