This month’s beauty bag candidate has more creative juices flowing inside of her than I could ever dream of (well that sounded different on screen to how it sounded in my head). Charly Cox is the Production Extraordinaire at JacksGap, Stylist/Creative Media Production Assistant for Burberry, the writer behind Style the Natives, barer of one of the best ‘I woke up like ‘dis’ eyeliner flicks I’ve ever seen and my new girl crush. We met a month ago at a party with an ‘I follow you on twitter’ mutual opening line. In fact you must check out her account for gems like ‘Just lost my mum in tescos. I’m too old for this shit and ‘Can we reclaim the meaning of ‘bikini ready’ to simply mean that you do in fact have a bikini in your possession at that particular moment?. But today we’re unloading the contents of her makeup and the secret of her smokey eye…

“I start by using Laura Mercier’s Foundation Primer in Radiance. I was really scared about this initially because I have quite oily skin, but at this time of year when it’s turning into autumn my skin gets combination and a bit ‘crispy’. That’s a disgusting word to use, but this stuff is amazing and it makes any foundation stay on your face all day and look expensive. I used to be mad for the Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation and would spend a fortune on it but it ran out one day and I panic purchased the Max Factor Facefinity Foundation and I’ve never gone back. I love this so much. I do have to blot my face a bit after using these two, so I use the Laura Mercier Loose Setting Translucent Powder which looks terrifying when I first put it on. You think ‘Oh my god, what have I done?’, but you just need to buff it in well. Together it all looks very professional and nice.

I don’t use concealer everyday, though I used to paint my face with the stuff. I just found that through doing that I was making my skin worse. It depends. If I’m going out I will use the Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer which is good because a) It’s cheap and I don’t wear it that often and b) I really like the brush. It means I don’t have to scramble around my makeup bag trying to find a brush to use to put it on.

I’ve had this tube of the YSL Touche Eclat for years! I use the tiniest bit and I just apply a line across the tops of my cheekbones and blend it out. I get very scared about pinks. All the rest of my makeup is very bronzy and brown, but I do like a bit of pink on the cheeks now and use the Laura Mercier Shimmer Bloc in Pink Mosaic with the Clinique Cheek Pop in Ginger Pop applied with the Models Own Powder Brush.

I’m very guilty of just sitting down and colouring in my eyebrows for hours. The Revlon Brow Fantasy in Dark Brown is great because I’m obsessed with the Cara Delevingne brow, so I pencil them on and then brush up my brows with the gel to make them look like boy eyebrows. Once I’ve done that I use the Topshop Glow in Gleam and apply it all the way up to my brow bone. I used to wear this on its own, but now I brush these two eyehshadows over the top (Charly points to her two most used shades of her Smashbox Full Exposure Palette). It looks nice and natural and look at all these mattes shades which are untouched! I just love a bit of shimmer.

I just apply a tiny bit of the Liz Earle Eye Pencil in Golden Bronze on the outer corners of my bottom lash line and it’s just the perfect golden brown. And then this is the stuff. I cannot tell you how long I’ve been in love with Alexa Chung for. I’ve wanted to be her since I was 13. It’s such a cliché and it makes me feel a bit disgusted with myself, but she’s just so cool. When she did the range for Eyeko I picked up this beautiful tube that had a mascara and some other bits in. The mascara was horrible, but the eyeliner… I’ve been through so many high-end and high-street liner pens and this is the best one. I’ve had the Eyeko Eye Do Liquid Liner since December and it’s still going strong. It does this thing, I always seem to want to sneeze whenever I’ve done my eye makeup and with all the others I’d sneeze and get this black line in the crease, but this just stays put. Then I use the L’Oreal Mega Volume Mascara. Look at the brush on that – it’s huge! I have really long eyelashes and I find anything that’s a bit small brush-wise makes my lashes look so short and stumpy. But this stuff stays on all day and it’s pretty much waterproof. I love a good cry and I never get this down my face.

For lips I either wear the NARS Lipgloss in Salamanca which my Mum picked up for me or the Bobbi Brown Sheer Lip Colour in Pink Rose which is such a nice shade and it’s moisturising as well so you don’t have to faff around with a lipbalm.

Two new purchases are the Mermaid Body Oil and Perfume that I found in Libertys. They were pricey, which made me feel a bit ill but they just smell so good. I’m so rubbish at moisturising, I never have time to sit and wait, but I just apply this to my arms which can get particularly dry or I wear it like a perfume. As soon as I bought it I thought I can’t be carrying this around with me all the time so I picked up the actual perfume. It’s a tiny bottle that I didn’t think would last me that long, but it’s got a pretty heavy spritz to it so you only need one pump. Six hours later and I can still smell it.”
