The first of the month has rolled around and that can only mean one thing – a look at what beauty fodder will be thrown into the seasonal mix this month. I’ll try to ignore the sweet, sweet pounding in my head and focus on all things beautiful as this bag had an almost ‘Shopping The Stash’ vibe while I was riffling through making my edit. I thought I’d take the opportunity to add some old favourites into my everyday box and address some mini speed reviews while I’m at it. Fresh, illuminating with a hint of perky pink – enter the January Beauty Bag…
January is the perfect time to embrace that dewy, ‘I’ve just been out for a big ol’ walk’ complexion, blah, blah, blah. But in all seriousness I’m planning to give a nod back to the lighter bases of last summer this month. I’ve given a fair amount of BB creams a go, but none have dazzled like the Dr Jart+ Water Fuse Beauty Balm. Colour range is classically limited but I do find the grey tinge melts away when blended into the skin and leaves the slightest amount of coverage. It may be shifting into tinted moisturiser territory but I like it and paired with Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base* I fall neatly into the New Year ‘dewy‘ makeup stereotype. I’m not sure I’ll let go of the MAC Chromographic Pencil in NC15-NW20 and Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Liner in Nude* over the next few weeks. Both perform exactly the same role and pencilled onto the lashline wave goodbye to eyes that tell the secrets of the night before. Another good’un that I don’t think has earnt a mention before is Laura Mercier Metallic Cream Eye Colour in Platinum. A quick slick over the lids equals champagne shimmer perfection; warning: layer over a primer as it does tend to crease. For lips I’m back on my dripfeed of daily nudes, the Buxom Big and Healthy Lip Cream in White Russian for gloss, YSL Rouge Pur Couture in 148 Tea Rose for colour and AERIN Rose Conditioner* for moisture. And it’s a similar story with nails, it’s time to rid them off their berry stain and lacquer over the sheer pinks - Essie Muchi Muchi and Ballet Slippers.
Into the everyday mix they go so there’s no doubt what I’ll be reaching for this month. Fresh, flawless and flushed is on the menu for the next four weeks and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in. Digging into a bag of beauty treats – what better way to start the year, eh?
