I can’t be the only one? You do your hair all snazzy and nice looking for a special occasion, it’s taken you a fair amount of time and then the minute you arrive at your destination it looks the same as it does everyday (I blame the special combination of rain and tube wind for the last time this happened). Of course it is kind of my own fault given that styling products in use are at an all time low right now – I’ve turned into a shampoo and conditioner kinda gal – so it’s about time I beefed up my styling stash. Being that my long hair days weren’t actually that long ago I’m offering up two options today of all-night-long hair helpers that should hold things in place till the wee hours for those with long locks or more mid-length tresses…
IF YOU’RE A MID LENGTH GAL. Then I reckon creams and pomades are the way to go. Shorter hair takes these on in a way that lifts and holds from root to tip – just remember, less is more. Always. As a pre-blow-dry measure I love the Bumble & Bumble Texture Hair (Un)Dressing Cream. It just gives a little bit of stick to the hair (in a good way) and makes whatever style you mould it into after more likely to last. Then as a step two post blow-dry pop a tiny amount of their Semisumo through the lengths. I actually steal this from Mark’s toiletry bag as it’s something he uses, but on my hair it separates and dulls down frizz, making things look smoother and giving some help in the hold department.
IF YOU’VE GOT MERMAID LOCKS. Then I suggest heading for a spray. Waxy, cream formulas will make things look textured and will give hold but it could err on the wrong side of greasy. A bit of volumiser on the roots with a hairspray through the lengths is how I like to keep strands on lock-down. You thought you knew what would be carted out here, but actually there’s another Oribe bottle that works well for giving things an oomph. It’s their Thick Dry Finishing Spray, which acts to me a bit like their Dry Texturising Spray and a hairspray mixed together, aesthetically expanding the roots while also helping to hold. Then for the lengths keep that curl, texture or straight look in with a hairspray. Now I’m a fussy little fusspot when it comes to formula as so often they leave hair feeling crispy and sticky to the touch, but the Living Proof Flex Shaping Hairspray does neither, providing a medium hold, without the ’90’s crusty texture.
And now it’s probably time to play this…
