I think my attempt to kick myself out of my ‘Jeans and a T-Shirt’ everyday habit is going quite well. Of course there are a tonne of PJ/workout gear combos over the weekend, due to all the decorating we’re doing, but during the week and for any social occasions or meetings I feel like I’ve been a little more daring with my clothing choices than normal. Now don’t get too excited here as it’s all still from the monochrome family – baby steps people! – but there’s been some recent additions of the dress variety and I even purchased a belt for the first time since my heavily studded belt days of 2003. ‘Ere, have a look…
I’ve really been getting into ASOS lately. The whole ‘Premier’ thing is just genius, even though I just discovered that you can arrange a courier to pick up your return instead of lugging it down the Post Office. Internet shopping at its laziest – I’m in! The only issue is that browsing the website can be a bit overwhelming at times because there’s just so much darn stuff to comb through. I tend to stick to the ‘New-In’ section, scroll through the selections of brands I like or have a look at their edits that they pull together. Through one of those methods (and I can’t remember which) I found this Striped Midi-Dress. Now I don’t own any other midi-dresses, but I have a soft spot for striped goods and I liked the seaside-y rope detail for the straps. You can take the girl out of Brighton, but you can’t take the Brighton out of the girl. It came with a rope belt too, but I prefer it with this Brown Waist Belt that again I picked up from good ol’ ASOS. I actually wore this combo a load in L.A, mainly because the material is thin and therefore keeps you cool, but also because it can be dressed up or down depending on your footwear and accessory choices. A great buy if you’re heading somewhere hot soon.
Amougst the crop tops and Rhianna-style pieces in Topshop, I found another dress that once I’d clapped eyes on I knew it had to be mine. Completely different to the ASOS number it’s like Nicole Richie, meets Austin Power’s sidekick, meets Victorian doll. The Embroidered Victoriana Dress might not be my usual style, but I still have fond memories of my boho-days back in the early ’00’s and I affiliated this dress with that time when I flaunted around in long brown tiered skirts and off-the-shoulder numbers. This dress makes me feel so girlie and again is something I wore a lot in L.A. Sure it shows a lot of leg, but it reveals absolutely nothing in the chest department, so it’s cool. Again a dress up/dress down number, I’ve been feeling it for more dressy occasions with my Whistles Strappy Heels.
Keep an eye out because I filmed a little ‘What I Wore: The L.A Edition‘ last week which features me standing around like a lemon and Lily filming it and desperately trying to make it all look less awkward. Thanks LP! It’s a funny one…
