I’m not quite sure how I’ve managed to blog about beauty in this little corner of the Internet for over five years, yet I’ve not ever given the Beautyblender a go. How has that happened? I guess I got so into buffing brushes that bopping my face with an egg-like tool didn’t seem appealing to me, plus they’re hardly the cheapest cosmetic sponge around. I guess I softened to the idea a year or so ago when the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge was released as it’s now incorporated into a step I do most days. Though I don’t ever use it for foundation application I use it after concealer to nuzzle in to the corner of and under my eyes to blend out concealer, before bopping it generally all over to par back any areas where I may have been a bit excessive with foundation.
To save repeating myself, the above is exactly what I use the Beautyblender for too. It’s a concealer smoosher and makeup naturaliser that rids the complexion of a heavy handed application. Used dry it has a tendency to bring down any shine and used wet it amps up glow. Who knew that a sponge could be so multi-tasking, eh?
Where the Beautyblender beats the Miracle Complexion Sponge by just a hair for me, is in the shape and texture of the tool. The BeautyBlender is a little more pointy and so gets right into those pesky to reach nooks and crannies of the face and it’s a little wider on the bottom so covers more surface area if you ever did fancy using it for slapping on foundation. It also feels a bit softer and expands more when it’s dampened.
It’s actually pretty fun bopping yourself in the face with an egg sponge every morning. Try it! Mark is baffled by the action and questions what the hell it’s doing, while I reply, ‘Babes, it’s a Beautyblender – every other beauty lover has been using it for years‘. A little late to the party, but I’m pleased I finally got round to going. The conga line coming your way….
