If ever there’s an excuse to buy yourself a ridiculously expensive nail polish, it’s the fact that it’s your birthday, right? If I’m honest I purchased this nail polish a few weeks ago now and given that my birthday is today (WHOOP) my justification here is a little tenuous, but when I first clapped my eyes on the newly launched Smith & Cult range in my local Space NK, it was love at first sight. The slightly dented edgy bottles, the colours all chic and wearable – swoon – and when I spotted Doe My Dear on the Sale Assistant’s tips, I knew what had to be done.
Thankfully I had £10 of points on my N.Dulge card, which made the £19 price tag a little easier to swallow. However, eye-watering RRP aside, this polish has made me fall in love with nail colour all over again and has shot its way to the top of my polish charts. Let’s talk aesthetics first. Now this bottle is chunky, hunky and is never going to win the price for ‘most compact and easy to store‘. The silver lid screws off to reveal a smaller one inside that’s much easier to handle and the brush is cut wide and square. The formula is good to. It paints on opaque and brush-stroke free and though you could get it built up in two coats, I quite like using three just to make sure the colour really is at it’s fullest potential, because when it is it’s all kinds of heart eye emoji.
You know I love a good grey/lilac/beige hybrid and this might just be the best one I’ve found yet. It’s a polished neutral that makes things look clean and fresh but you also can’t stop staring at it. A boring beige it is not. I’ve swatched this compared to my old favourite Nails Inc Porchester Square and I actually think I prefer it. SHOCKER. The new Porchester Sqaure from the Nails Inc rebrand is little warmer than the previous one and a bit more rosy than lilac, whereas Doe My Dear sits a little more cool and grey and is closer to the original Porchester Square formula. Think Porchester Square mixed with Essie Master Plan – that’s Doe My Dear.
Who’d have thought it, eh? A new favourite nail polish that’s knocked my previous fave off the chart that it had been top dog at for years. So I think I’ve fallen for Smith & Cult hook, line and sinker. What colour would you suggest next?
