It’s so fluffy…
If you couldn’t already tell from my autumn capsule wardrobe haul, I’m a big fan of a knitwear (understatement of the year). During the cooler months it’s practically all I wear, along with my uniform of jeans and boots. Of course they’re practical – pop a thermal underneath ’em and you’ll practically be sweating in the snow – but they don’t have to be boring. I like to think that it’s great to have your basics down and build on those with some more jazzy numbers. I personally love to have a white, grey and black crew-neck knit in my capsule, ready to roll out. Then it’s nice to have a slouchy number, a patterned one and then something a bit chunkier for when you feel like your nipples might fall off. Here are some of my top picks…
The Slim & Slouchy Knit
I think these might be my favourite type of knit. I like anything clothing-wise that resembles a bin-bag and these fit that bill. Let’s also not forget that they’re amazing at hiding food babies and bloat (especially when you had two and a half bagels at lunch). I like to tuck mine into a belted jean at the front, or if I’m looking like I’ve got a kangaroo pouch stuck to my front that day, I let the whole thing hang low. My favourite that I picked up this year is this ASOS Funnel Neck Cashmere Jumper which isn’t too horrendously priced for cashmere and had a neat semi-high neck that doesn’t flap around like cowl necks do and pick up discarded food particles, although I give it about two years until it’s caked in orange foundation.

The ‘Hurts Your Eyes a Bit’ Patterned Knit
I’m pretty sure that a patterned piece of knitwear is still a tame wardrobe addition for most, but for me – it’s about as daring as I get *tucks self back into blanket and scans TV channels for baking shows*. It’s difficult to find ones that don’t have a Christmas print on or make your eyes feel all skew-whiff when you look at them, but I think I’ve found the perfect one for my wardrobe in the form of this ZARA Leopard Jacquard Sweater. It’s big and box-cut, so it’s worth trying on in-store as you might wish to pick-up a smaller size than normal; but I love this thrown on with jeans and flats for a casual weekend outfit.

The Semi-Chunky Knit
The thing that I love about chunky knits is that they’re basically like mini personal blankets that are cut in such a way that it’s socially acceptable to walk about in public wearing them. It’s great. Of course there are your real, real chunky knits – like the one on the far right, below – that sometimes make me feel like a snowman (I still wear them regardless). I haven’t yet found my perfect one for this year, mainly for the aforementioned reason that they’re a little too chunky, but I have to say I’m pretty tempted by the ones below. I mean look at that burgundy number, and that green? Gorgeous.
