Simply The (Orangey) Reds

Last week I cobbled together an edit of the best of the reds in my lip stash. There was something for everyone with a spectrum of tones, textures ranging from full-on opaque, non-budging formulas to sheeny washes for entry level bold lip wearers and you lot seemed to like it, so this time round I’m switching the focus onto my orangey toned reds which is personally my favourite way to wear an ‘out there’ lip colour…

Clinique Long Last Soft Matte Lipstick in Matte Mandarin. I’d dub this a straight-up red with a hint of orange and it’s actually a tone that’s echoed almost pigment for pigment across the line-up. Although it’s packaged up as a matte formula, I’d say this is more creamy than others in here making it a nice daytime choice for when you don’t want your lips to shrivel up like a prune.

Lancome L’Absolu Velours Velvet Matte Lip Colour in 172. A liquid texture thats sits somewhere in-between a gloss and a lipstick, setting to a velvet finish that can be layered up to look quite full and glossy or slicked on as a medium wash of colour. I really like the tomato-redness of it all, but be warned that the applicator takes a bit of getting used to.

MAC Pro Longwear Lipcreme in Good to Go. I think this may be one of my favourites, even though it’s impossible to tell this one and the next two apart from the swatches. The colour fits the orangey red bill perfectly, but it’s the formula I love. Thick and waxy but not too powdery, if you want something seriously long lasting then this is it.

Lipstick Queen Glossy Pencil in Genre. A chubby-esque pencil it delivers a sheer wash of colour that it’s impossible to go wrong with. If you’re looking for your entry level pout product – here’s your guy. Enough pigment to feel daring enough but in a finish that you won’t even have to think about.

MAC Lipstick in Morange. The classic. The one and only. When you think about red/orange lippies – this is the one you think of, right? You can see from the swatches that it sits in the middle of the shade range and it’s in a formula that isn’t too matte, too creamy, too powdery (it’s an Amplified FYI) and it’s a good one to have hanging around.

Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in In Love With Ginger. More of a classic red with just a tinge of mandarin to it, I’d pitch this as your drugstore dupe for MAC Morange. It’s a tad darker in colour, but all the aforementioned properties of Morange apply to this, it’s just slightly less longer lasting.

NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Red Square. Do I even need to explain this one? Just look how tiny how it’s got! I was surprised by how dark it came up compared to the others, but it’s still my all-time fave. Nothing beats the convenience, colour and the fact that I can go to down on a burrito and afterwards it’s still hanging on.

Maybelline Coloursensational Vivid Lipstick in Electric Orange. Differing from the others, this shade veers off into more orange territory and I like it. The formula is spot on: thick, opaque and not too glossy and it’s the best orange I’ve found on the highstreet with a bargain-a-licious price tag.

…and I think that rounds up the evidence as to why I never need to buy another orangey red lipstick ever again. Oops.
