I thought I’d throw this dilemma into The Forum because it’s a topic I’ve been pondering a lot recently. Do shimmer finishes float your boat or is it mattes that do it for you when it comes to makeup? I know, so deep; but I like to keep it light round here you know?
Here’s the thing, when it comes to lips I’ll take a shine-free texture over one that has a hint of glimmer all day ‘eryday. They hang around for longer and don’t tend to transfer onto every surface you come within a five metre radius of. I ended up with lipgloss on my shoulder the other day. How the hell did that happen? But with eyes it’s a different story. Sometimes I favour a more Olivia Palermo matte lid look, but other times I feel like cracking out my MAC Pigments and practically dipping my face in the stuff. I guess most days I end up settling for something in the middle – like the Burberry Pale Barley types – that have a teenie tiny amount of pearl to them, but in a very subtle way that in no way shape or form translates into glitter.
So for me personally on the question of matte or shimmer, I’m once again sitting on the fence. Matte lips, nails and sometimes lids with a sometimes shimmery eye is my happy place makeup-wise. A happy medium between the two is where I sit – what about you? Who knows, maybe a ’90’s shimmer revival is just around the corner…
