Raising the roof with another no-makeup, how-many-products-can-I-whittle-it-down-till-it’s-zero no makeup look; yep, I’m doing it. I just can’t help myself. But after a peruse through the archives last week it’s never been clearer that I’m in the grips of a minimal makeup moment. Less is more and all that and right now I’m embracing the sheen more than ever – no powder in sight just glow-givers and a slick of that ol’ fave Elizabeth Arden’s 8 Hour Cream. It may just look like every other makeup I’ve snapped and clicked publish on *cough* it is *cough*, but there are some newer acquisitions in there which are really rather good. Hear me out…
To kick off proceedings, I worked the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation in 52* down the centre of my face and areas of redness (read: everywhere), with my tips. The medium tinted, skin-like coverage and dewy finish it gives is fast causing it to climb my foundation ranks. Now hold the phone as my usual Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer has a rival – Dior’s Hydra Life BB Eye Creme in 1. The two are incomparable; completely different functions and ends of the dark circle covering spectrum, but for a daily basis I can see the Dior becoming my bag diminisher of choice. It may be fact I’m completely sold on Dior at the moment, but its awakening, non-drying, light texture was made for no makeup, makeup days. Another new addition to the clan, Josie Maran’s Coconut Watercolour Cheek Gelée in Poppy Paradise pinched some colour into my cheeks. And man, have I fallen hard for this stuff. A gel textured injection of subtle colour that feels cool when striped onto the skin and blends in like you never even applied it. Weird but wonderful, and I’ll stop my rave for short for the fact it’s not available on UK shores – sort it out Josie! A final nod to sheen was added with a patting of Hourglass’ Illume Bronze Light Duo across my (lets pretend they are there) cheekbones.
Instead of opting for bare lids, a wash of MAC’s Pro-Longwear Paint Pot in Eclair or Eyeshadow in All That Glitters – my current colour jams – here’s where the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream came in. I took a tiny tiny amount on my finger and smudged it all over my lids. This idea was partly birthed from the fact I’m suffering from some serious dry patches under brow and how I always spot this being deemed a multi-purpose shimmer-free highlighter but personally reserve it for moisturising duties. And you know what? I liked it. Sheenier than bare lids, but subtle and non-sticky. This new use for it may mean that I actually end up coming to the end of my never-ending tube. Lashes were crimped and curled with Shu Uemura’s Eyelash Curler and L’Oreal Telescopic Waterproof Mascara – standard. And for brows, I skipped my usual pencils and shadows and slicked on a coat of Anastasia’s Tinted Brown Gel in Espresso* simply for the fact my slugs are looking huge at the moment but still need pinning down. To conclude lips were given a layer of Laura Mercier’s Lip Glacé in Pink Prep*, the only gloss I’ve got time for bar the Clarin’s Instant Light Natural Lip Perfectors.
BOOM… sheer and sheeny at your service. But here’s a snippet for you; after popping into Charlotte Tilbury’s Makeup House of Rock ‘n’ Kohl at Selfridges last week, I was given a little dramatic eye juzch and I loved it so much I didn’t want to take it off. Deats coming soon. See I can do smokey too.
